Lymphedema at night while you sleep can be challenging. When lymphatic fluid gets backed up or congested, causing that body area to swell, this can be a sign of lymphedema. The goal is to get swelling out of that area and keep lymphatic fluid moving in the body with things like movement and exercise. But how do we keep things moving when the body is at rest at night? In this video, I will explain ways to mobilize and keep edema and lymphatic fluid moving while you sleep to help manage and treat lymphedema and swelling.

Get a rebounder(specific mini trampoline). Bounce on it without putting air between your feet and the rebounder. It works the entire lymphatic system in 2 minutes. Do this 3x’s /day.

Did not work for me. It takes up mega room I gave to a charity thrift. I use a vibration plate which works far better for me, and keeps my back pain free.

Both a rebounder and vibration device would never work for me, due to other overlapping issues. I really wish they would, since both look like a way to have a little fun with an otherwise aggravating often tedious issue to manage.

Haddenham comfiwave is more comfortable for night time, but not available in all countries yet. I feel like my mobiderm adjustafit does a little more fibrosis braking , so i swap between the two.But more often use the comfiwave for night comfort and even easier to get on.Both great.

Good news for people in the US on Medicare. As of January 24 treatment for lymphedema is covered. This includes the cost for physical therapy and for various products like bandages and compression hose.

@@crispykmm9646 Oh, I wish that Haddenham was available in the US!! Australia seems to have the lead when it comes to lymphedema in almost all areas. I did find a Wearease vest type garment that might work for me that has a lining using some of the same mobiderm principles (I find I might be able to tolerate a garment with differential pressure better) but I still haven't been able to scrape together the money to try it.

Lymphatic drainage and aquatic physical therapy are covered by insurance - but general pool exercise classes or routine massage are not typically. So there may be options for some! But I agree- insurance covering all of these would improve everyone’s healthy 🙂

@terrydillon9323 - The US Congress has only just recently passed legislation requiring Medicare coverage to help cover the cost of lymphedema supplies. Most people don't even know about it yet! It took YEARS and much effort to get that done. Consult your lymphedema therapist or MD or vender.

This is great and might be helpful for those who can afford it or get insurance to cover it, but also another vote for addressing more directly breast/chest/axilla at night please. What might be safe or advisable/not advisable? I would particularly like to know if there are options for those areas that don't involve wearing a full compression bra all night (like are there bandaging options for those areas.) For trauma & co-morbidity reasons, I'm having extreme difficulty with compression at all and k-taping also isn't viable for me (skin can't take the adhesive) so really wanting to look into "out of the box" alternatives to keep this from progressing badly. I can't be the only one in this or a similar situation. Thank you!

I had to pay out of pocket for my garments, Insurance doesn't cover it.
@ruthwolf1958
@ruthwolf1958 Ай бұрын
@@marylem9277 My insurance will cover some, but they've restricted me to certain suppliers that are in network. Those suppliers can't supply what I need so I'm left with nothing or having to choose between food/bills and potentially worsening symptoms to pay for these expensive things. It's great that Medicare now has to cover these things, but also wondering if the same things is going to happen to those people. Coverage for only the cheapest products and not the best for the individual. Also, "regular" insurance companies often have clauses that they have a year to implement any new legislation, so even if many of them will eventually follow suit, it won't happen immediately for many of us.

My question is how to avoid that I won't face lymphoedema throughout my life. I m 39 years old. Surgery was 4 months as ago. Also question is what not to do or what can be done to avoid axillary lymphedema. If possible share video links related to that. Thanks for your understanding

Mobiderm can go anywhere, in a bra for chest swelling, across abdomen etc (they do also make mobiderm bras and shorts and more) -If the swelling is lymph fluid type swelling, such is very common after most head and neck cancer surgeries that often involve node removal and scaring ,since we have so many nodes in that area, any cut or injury needs a lot of rehab and lymphoedema is very common in head and neck . But yep, mobiderm is great there, especially if your unable to access proper full head /neck medical compression garments. (L & R make a Tribute head and neck garment/Lohmann & Rauscher) I have also seen someone just put a pad of mobioderm under their chin where they had swelling and pop a headband on to hold it while she watched telly.Or in a facemask and loop it on the ears and it holds a pad under the chin (Saw on ORSI's insta page @oncology_recovery_services) . Simple short term solutions, the worse the swelling the more proactive we have to be. A good therapist can help you problem solve and pick the best products for each persons specific needs and situation. Do use your local lymphoedema associations to find registered qualified certified specially trained lymphoedema therapist near you.

Yes, the face and head are different because swelling typically worsens at night while laying down. There are some night time garments for the face one can get, and elevation is helpful, too! 🙂 I do have other videos that explain all of this more! I’d get the item she’s showing in the video. You probably won’t need bandaging if you get this thing. You’ll get used to wearing it. You won’t even think about it once you get into the habit. I self-bandage my arm. I watch you tube videos while I decongest the arm and then do the bandaging. It goes very fast now and I don’t give it much thought.

@melclo3641 - I hope your lymphedema therapist can help you find a solution. Without treatment, you will only develop more swelling and tissue fibrosis. Lymphedema is a progressive disease that, at its very worst, can cause a fatal infection. Perhaps to start with, you can begin by wrapping only one leg and alternate?
