This presentation would benefit with an updated functional description of lymphatic system function which includes description of the distributed lymphatic pumping of the lymphatic vessels ( lymphangions). This is the major mode of transport of lymph fluid within the lymphatic system. This pumping is effectuated by neural, hormonal, and fluid shear forces acting to activate the muscular cells of the lymphangion. It is only augmented by static pressure differentials of external compression, and by physical pumping through muscular action and pulsing of adjacent arteries. If not for this autonomous distributed pumping of the lymphangions we would blow up like balloons while we slept.

I have been suffering from something similar like this for several years, but doctors haven't been able to figure out what my problem is. They have done tests for clots or blood infection and haven't found anything, keep sending me home with Morphine. First they said it was cellulitis but it didnt go away with antibiotics either. Meanwhile my pain doesn't go away and neither does my swelling. I don't know what to do at this point. I think its lymphadema.

There is a similar illness called lipedema. But instead of fluids, fat tissue builds up and people appear unproportionally obese. These illnesses are not rare, but the diagnosis is rarely made! There are videos on both on KZbin, just search for more content!

@Kyra Vankriekinge Not yet. I live in a remote area of NM. I have to drive 1.5 or 2 hours in either direction to find a specialist. I took measurements the other day and my right extremities are 1/2" larger than the left, but the ankle is 3/4" larger than the left. My arm and thigh feel much firmer than the ones on the left.

Thank you so much for providing me with the name of what you have bc I think I may have the same issue following after a thyroid storm. Doctors in OK have not done anything to help me or given me a diagnosis or even attempted to explain what is going on. My only question is your swelling pitting or non-pitting bc mine is non-pitting. My hands down to my feet for about 5, maybe 6 months now. It hurts to move on some days. I'm left trying to figure out what is wrong with me and I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

Eat lots of good quality protein with veg and fruit. A good diet is so important. Your body needs the good protein to heal. And the vitamins and minerals from the veg and fruit. Take Vit. D, C, Omega 3. Talk to a wound care specialist. And stay hydrated!!!
