Happiness, youth, moments lost in time. Sparks in the darkness, fading to be obscured by newer, brighter lights. It is the darkness that makes them shine so brightly.

Love this song so deeply. Couldn't listen to it for a while as we lost someone in similar circumstances last year and these lyrics were too painful, but now I'm re-discovering their beauty. Two long years in January. Thank you for creating something so beautiful and powerful and soothing.

I have never been so fond of a bands music than of theirs. They rock me to my very core. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, if I listen to Lankum, everything begins to washout and I become humbled. We have come so far from our own existence and what is true and righteous, and Lankum is here to remind us all who we are and to bring us back to whole. This is the music of the flesh and blood of the earth. Alas, zen.
@Chrissepisje4 жыл бұрын
It's funny how people experience this differently. You say it rocks you to your core, I say it renders me nigh comatose. To me it sounds as if Art Garfunkel sucked the soul out of a Belle and Sebastian record and then sent the smouldering leftovers to Nick Cave for the bridge. For what it's worth: None of this is a compliment. :) Anyway, funky or jazzy this is not. I fear soul, R&B, blues, jazz, latin, bossa, hip-hop and funk have ruined this type of music for me. I think I could have enjoyed this as a late teenager, when I still thought angst could be somewhat cool, but that's a wee while ago. Anyway, NPR just cost me 4.52 of my life I'll never get back. :)

Very unusual very sophisticated musically. That shadowy, threat-filled pace and rhythm combination with human voice harmonies is like something from a world of hypnosis and dreams. Very unusual.

Well this is just utterly fantastic. I bought the LP after reading an interview with your producer John ‘Spud’ Murphy. I love his ideas about sound and his approach serves to amplify and empower your songs in the best possible way. The sound, the lyrics, the sentiment, the performance is as good as it gets. Life affirming and transcendental.

A gut-puncher of a song. Excellent stuff - yet also draining. At one point it sounds upbeat... yet you can't escape the lyrics.

Lankum is one of the rarest and finest bands that my ears have had the pleasure of listening to their music in the past 30 years or more. They've got that rare and special quality that's impossible to describe a define in words. They play and sing traditional Irish folk music which is a worldwide feel to it.. There is haunting music that makes you stop and think, wonder and brings your mind into the mystic, their words and music captures your mind and sinks down into your heart and soul, it is music from the earth and seeps up into your mind

I feel it to be the anthem of a generation. Just my opinion but it speaks to me that way. Fills me with nostalgia and feels like a requiem for my 20s.

This is a beautifully melancholic, trance-like song. And I think you're absolutely right - although my interpretation of it is probably more pessimistic. I'm middle-aged now, and I feel that this says more about the generation younger than me, who have to come of age and get by in a pretty bleak world.
