Hi M. Blades, I’m from Montreal. I knew there a way to make music easy to understand. You just gave me the answer to my question. I’m also a teacher myself and know well that there are more than one way to explain what ever the subject. I thank you very much Sir.

I can’t believe how lucky I am to find your channel just at the time when I started to look more closely at chords. Your method of teaching is excellent allowing me to be able to play music while learning. I understand that the theory is important but for me it is easier to play first and use that to understand the theory.
@lyndenblades11 ай бұрын
Hi John, that’s so kind of you to say, thank you very much 🤩 I agree with you, the theory is really important and it’s so much easier to get when you can apply it to something that you can actually play. Otherwise it can all seem a bit abstract. Thanks again and please let me know if there’s content that you’d like to see 🤝🤝😎😎🎷🎷

Very helpful and in a simple way of playing over those chord progressions. I'll be trying that out. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with what scales I'll be playing in the more jazz type of songs. You're approach makes it a lot easier. Thank you!

Yes that's it. Simplicity. I play like this on sax. On piano, I use substitutions, fast tempo, altered scales, chromatims because my jazz skills are lots higther. But people listening to my solos prefers the sax ones 😂. Ben Webster is My Master since I do sax, and it begins to change my way of improvising on piano. Good thing. Thx for the video

On Bars 9-12 it’s a major 2-5-1. What I don’t understand being new to this how you play a minor scale over it. Great video!
@lyndenblades11 ай бұрын
Thank you 🤩 The minor scale works because the first chord of the 251 is a Dorian minor. Does that make sense?
@GordonCrowe10011 ай бұрын
@@lyndenblades So the first chord in a 251 is like a key centre. Would that be right?
@lyndenblades11 ай бұрын
@@GordonCrowe100 the last chord, the major (1) is really the key centre because the 2 and the 5 are derivatives of it, modes of the 1. They all share the same notes. Does this make sense?

I understand the theory - what the 251 represents with respect to a scale. What I can’t get is how the -7 or 7 or any of the other “clues” tell you that’s what the progression is. Can you explain how these “clues” tell you this? Why for example does it not suggest a IV-V-I progression? I understand that the notes wouldn’t tie in with that progression but not sure how you get to first base-if that makes sense.
