WELCOME BACK! Races to Places travel episodes are back and we are heading to Iceland. Before we do though, it was time to prepare the new bike for my travels. It's no secret that after my incredibly successful journey 'Races to Places' I was given the opportunity to become a brand ambassador for Husqvarna Motorcycles and join forces with such a prestigious brand for my future projects. It's a perfect fit, a brand that makes the best Factory Rally bike available, championship winning 2-stroke and 4-stroke off-road motorcycles, an amazingly capable middleweight Adventure bike and a brand name that is over 120 years old, enriched in history and dedication to motorcycle racing and production. As Basil sits in a museum today, taking a well deserved break, I chose to try the new Norden 901 Adventure Motorcycle for my adventure travels. Of course though, before we set off, I wanted to personalise it a little for my riding style and adventure requirements. I hope you enjoy this bike build episode and learn more about the WP Xplor Pro Suspension available for these machines, the setup I chose to use and how you can get similar product from my web-site www.lyndonposkittracing.com/shop
Thanks for watching everyone, thanks for sticking with me and please do leave your comments below. We appreciate your time. Lyndon and Team.

I found the straps of the 4H tank-bag to be in the way or feel uncomfortable sometimes. So I cut them off and screwed a SW-Motech Quick-Lock system to the bottom of the bag. I love it that way and it has held up for over 3 years now! Can really reccomend that mod. I didn't know the 901 has a lower tier suspension than the 790R/890R even though it's more expensive?! The KTMs have adjustable preload on the forks and high & low speed compression on the rear shock. Without luggage I find my Xplor system to be sufficient even in rough terrain but with lot's of luggage the rear doesn't feel good in hard and rocky terrain. Some of it may come from the shock but I believe that the rear frame is a little too soft and the bike starts to wobble... Anyway I wish you lot's of fun with your new setup! Happy riding

Yeah another R2P adventure!! I really love the set up videos and detail because it is extremely interesting to hear why you make the changes you do. Norman looks beautiful and ready for the test, but I am still scrimping and saving to build my own Basil replica! Or at least as close as I can come to it with the components we mortals can get our hands on.

Super bummed you retired Basil. I know you stated the same power to weight but to me those bikes are chalk and cheese. The big singles are far more versatile so please bring back Basil. Cheers

Awesome video especially the mini seminar on the suspension upgrade. The big revelation for me was learning that the cone valve component in the forks performs functionally like the high speed compression in the shock it seems. Curious if you will be running the stock air filtration system or modifying with a prefilter and/or other. Best of luck on the adventure!

Good to see you on new adventures. Thinking that the new suspension may be a 890R kind of thing. This side stuck on tuned XR657L mechanics - happy for it

Hey Lyndon looking forward to Iceland trip. I am planning a trip there next year. Quick one for you: i see you drilled the Akra muffler to remove the baffle (they don't come with a remove plug anymore) did you like the low mid power delivery without it? What is the benefit except a more throaty sound of course. Cheers

Lyndon, there seems to be another edition of the 901 Norden launching in 2023, the Norden 901 Expedition. However, it would seem they are not making much noice about it yet, possibly to not intefear with the 2023 launch of the KTM 890 & 890R's...🤔 Is this something you've heard or know something about, & that you could share?.. From what I've learned of it so far, it looks like a really nice "upgraded" edition..

Looks like great upgrades, but I'm a bit confused. The upgrades you're adding are already on the KTM 890 Adventure R, and the Norden 901 is a rebranded 890 Adventure vanilla. So why not just get a 890 Adventure R from the start?

Hey Lyndon, this is an amazing setup. On the pro forks and shock setup do you need any additional changes line kickstand and brake lines , or is this required only if one goes for the full 270mm travel kit?

Rally wheels with narrower rims for a better choice of tyres off road. They are KTM OEM.

So… damaging shims. The thinner the shim the more force it can take before permanent deformation. Thus thinner shim stacks are better? But then you need more shims. Where does that meet up with the cone valve. Were they using too thick shims? Was this an improper shimming issue? Couldn’t you just dyno a shock and shim it to where something else is breaking instead? If the fork folds before the shims fail is that a victory? Suspension is a black art
@lyndonposkitt
@lyndonposkitt Жыл бұрын
Shims are designed to bend and return to their original position but it’s a fine line how to set them. The cone valve is much better for high speed fast impact because you don’t get hydraulic lock. I’m not a suspension expert but I do my own suspension and mostly self taught. Remember all production bikes are built to a budget, fit for a purpose, they will never be the best you can get because that costs too much money for a serial production bike. It’s always been the same and always will be, stock suspension is suitable for all riders in given situations and 90% of riders riding style, the others can upgrade or change. No production bikes come perfectly setup suspension wise for a certain individual, impossible for the OEM to know the size and weight and riding style of each buyer. Hope that helps. Thankfully WP offer this suspension for those that want it or need it, the others can manage with stock or modify the stock suspension (often a cheaper solution). My wife prefers the stock suspension when she is on it, my pro setup is too stiff for her. There is never one setup suits all, that’s suspension.
