You're right. I should not have said it that way. The Saiga 12 and the Lynx 12 have a different gas system that includes a puck and an adjustable valve. I believe it lets more gas into the system in order for it to cycle the larger bolt carrier group and move the larger shells which have more surface area and more resistance.

Great video. Did you ever replace the recoil spring on your Saigas? If not that could have put extra stress on the carrier. Oddly enough, I have been interested in getting a Lynx and most reviews are stellar due to it being made in the same factory as the Chinese type 56. Most notable important factors are the same as the Saiga 12 such as forged front trunion and forged bolt. The one thing I have heard is the carrier is cast instead of the Saigas being forged as I understand. Either way, the Lynx seems to be an exceptional value coming from a military factory that has been in the AK manufacturing business for a long time : )
@tsafa5 жыл бұрын
I never change the recoil springs on the Saiga 12s. I only shot birdshot out of them so I don't think the gun got beat up that much except for the piston. There's a company that just started making replacement bolt carriers for the Sega, but they want $300 for it. I'm better off just buying another lynx for $450 shipped.
@TK-zw3dw5 жыл бұрын
I guess if you got 30k rounds out of the gun you did well. I don’t know the recoil spring exact round replacement on an AK or Saiga but it is a serviceable item such as on a handgun that your gun will last longer if it is replaced and it’s a cheap enough part it just makes sense to do IMO

Hello loving your videos, but does this shotgun put you at a disadvantage reloading from a combat standpoint without the hold open?
@tsafa4 жыл бұрын
From a combat perspective, I do believe there is a disadvantage and not having a shotgun or rifle lock open on the last round. Of course this carried over from the AK-47 to this Lynx 12 shotgun. So the same disadvantage exist in the AK-47. With an AR-15 or Glock 17 you can feel the gun lock open with some experience. More importantly, putting a new magazine into a gun that is locked open is a lot easier. If the gun is locked closed, you have to compress the spring further as you press the new magazine in. I did a video service on reloading the AK-47. One method is called Iraqi reload where you hold the bolt open while you insert the magazine for easier instruction. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmnYi35ro915ptk

Did you have to do some minor modification with the Promag? Mine fits in from the front, but does not click in back. I bought the Promag Saiga 12 magazine, which I thought would work with the lynx12.
@tsafa5 жыл бұрын
@@Tam-cd8sp I don't recall if I had to sand down the back. This is a very common issue with AK magazines in general. I know I have had to sand down other plastic mags to make them fit into AK-47s. It is common to make them larger so that they can be fitted without too much wobble. Otherwise some people will get a great deal of wobble since there is much tolerance difference in AKs. Sand just a little bit at a time with a stone block. Plastic comes off very fast so you don't want to go too far.

Hey Tsafa I have never held a Saiga 12 but I have multiple AK rifles and I was wondering does your bolt carrier group have two rivets near where the piston threads into the carrier? I know with traditional AKs you can drill out the rivets and unthread the piston from the carrier and screw a new piston in then hammer in a roll pin to keep it in place. If you look up KNS pistons for AKs that's the way that you replace your piston. Like I said I don't know exactly how the Saiga 12 looks but figured I would try and help.
@tsafa4 жыл бұрын
Yes Saiga has the rivets holding the piston and the bolt carrier together . That is the weakest point. That is where both of mine broke at about 30,000 rounds. The Lynx 12 bolt is a lot stronger.

The first one I had needed replacing by 6,000 rounds. The second one has gun 8,000 rounds. I shoot birdshot at clays. Buckshot or slugs will probably wear out faster.

What brand of magazine should you use with the Lynx?
@tsafa2 жыл бұрын
I use AGP. The batch of 20 I bought about 10 years ago is better than the batch I bought in early 2021. I did a video in my Channel about fixing them. Just search my channel name and AGP magazines

does the lynx 12 have a bolt hold-open?
@tsafa3 жыл бұрын
No it does not. That's not normal in an AK-47 design. The bolt hold open is usually created by getting aftermarket Serbian magazines that have a follower that comes up higher to catch the bolt. Once you pull the magazine out, the bolt closes so you still don't have the advantage of easier loading.
@ryancrazy13 жыл бұрын
@@tsafa sorry. Not an automatic bolt hold open. I saw some have the little button to lock the bolt back or the safety cut out. I was able to find a video that shows it
@tsafa3 жыл бұрын
@@ryancrazy1 that would be an interesting feature. The Lynx 12 does not have it. My general feeling is that they should stick to the standard AK-47 design that works and not change things until millions of these are put into circulation.
@ryancrazy13 жыл бұрын
@@tsafa I just watched a video that goes over it. There should be a tab just beside/behind the trigger that you push up that will hold the bolt back. Does your 2 not have that? I believe the saiga has it aswell?
@tsafa3 жыл бұрын
@@ryancrazy1 I see it now. I probably noticed it and forgot it at some point because I don't use it. I remember that the saiga-12 had it but I had to remove it during the conversion process because those guns were imported with the grip behind the hammer for some stupid legal reason. When I did the conversion, that bolt catch was a problem. On the list 12 it is so out of my way that I completely forgot about it. It is good that the feature is there because some ranges require you to lock the guns open when they call a ceasefire.

The bolt does not from Lynx to Saiga since they upgraded it. That was the first thing I tried 😁

Anyone looking for spare parts for their Saiga 12 they won't interchange but now that the Kalashnikov USA KS12 and Komrad are in full production I am sure there will be spare bolts available soon enough. The talk is that they are made on the same tooling and to the same specs that the IZMASH S12's were.

Question, would it be wise to sand and polish the black nitride bolt carrier? I couldn’t get my hands on the one that had the chrome bolt carrier and I love the way it looks. I would like to sand it down and polish it.
@tsafa3 жыл бұрын
I don't think that would be a problem. I had and earlier cheetah 12, which sucked, and would not cycle so well. SDS Imports told me to polish that bolt carrier. Also with the bolt on my lynx12, I had to do a lot a lot of grinding and polishing to get that to fit anyway. I would order a backup one just in case. They're not that expensive from SDS. Why would I have to have a glock when I have better guns that I shoot better?
@tsafa3 жыл бұрын
The patent on Gen 3 Glocks has expired and dozens of companies make the parts for them and sell them on internet cheap. Glock gen 3 has become the equivalent of mil-spec AR-15. More people can completely disassemble a G17 and completely reassemble it then any other pistol, because we have been building polymer 80s. People have stockpiles of Glock parts unlike any other pistol. On top of that Glock G17 & G19 are extremely durable. My G17 went 75000 rounds before it broke. Search my video on that.
