Me and 3 of my brothers went to this concert in 1977. Born and raised in LA. My older brother and I hitch hiked from San Fernando Valley down to Anaheim Stadium. At the time my father lived off Coldwater canyon in the San Fernando Valley. I was 15 years old. I wandered off from my brothers and ended up right up front on the left side of the stage looking right up at Steve Gaines ... man that was awesome. Boy did he inspire Skynryd to take it up a notch. They were just incredible that night. He was such a talented guitar player. At the time quaaludes, angel dust and Thai sticks was all the rage. In my opinion ... REO Speedwagon and Gary Richraft and his 59' Les Paul and Marshall stacks stole the show! At their peak and prime just kicked ass. This was before the AM pop shit. Luckily I didn't indulge to much cuz I didn't have much money and remember this event quite fondly. Ted was his usual maniac acting like a madman. Hate to say it but Foreigner was not that big at the time.

Hadn’t seen it since that show. 4 of us rented Hondas in San Diego and rode up to the show the night before. We all got scalped$20 for tix. We snuck into a boat dealership across the street and partied in a $60k speed boat all night! Sat behind home plate where it was safe. I swear I remember a fire started in front of the stage while the boys were playing!!!!

I was there with my buddy Gary Loch, we were 14, took the bus as close as we could get from Long Beach. We didn't bring much money and it was an all day in to the night show. Some bikers on the field took pity on us and gave us some sandwiches. Amazing show. Ted Nugent was the headliner with, Lynyrd Sknynrd, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and I think REX was the first act, I can't remember we were to busy trying to work our way to the front of the stage. I can't believe my parents greenlit that trip for me. My dad must have had no clue how huge that show was.

Remember this show like it was yesterday. Magically event to say the least. Show started off by opener Rex fronted by Rex Smith later of tv show Solid Gold as a tv host then Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent and the main event Lynyrd Skynyrd. Fireworks going off in the parking lot and a bonfire on second base were people were dancing around. Remember Anaheim Fire Department bring a truck out on the field to put the fire out. Had to move thru a sea of bodies just to get to it. Had the front page from the Orange County Register paper for many years of how the attendance was broken on that summer day. Over 72,000 people at this show. Skynyrd rented some movie lighting equipment to light the stage with that night that's why the stage looks so bright in this film footage. This was being recorded for PepsiCo for a tv commercial they would put out to salute Lynyrd Skynyrd. And who knew just two months later on October 20,1977 this would all come down to a sad ending. Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane would run out of fuel and crash in Mississippi. Lost to that crash were singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, his sister backup singer Cassie Gaines & road manager Dean Kilpatrick. I run a page dedicated to Steve Gaines on Facebook call A Tribute To Steve Gaines. Anyone interested in him, his sister Cassie or the Lynyrd Skynyrd band are welcomed to look us up and join. 😇

I just wanna say something about the language as misleading for whatever reason but there was footage of their last live performance and it wasnt in California or wherever you have them playing . In honest i saw the last performance and it was in Greenville SC at Memorial Coliseum so maybe this might let people who come here see and not be mislead and the footage i speak of was mostly destroyed in the plane crash but people know this i saw this band over 15 times and just like it should have been it was undeniably the best performance i ever saw them have and thanks for your time & peace to all who come here to see a great band
