Another Skynyrd tune. Thanks. I caught them in Virginia Beach last summer on the farewell tour. Got the t-shirt : ) with the tour dates on it. (July 6, 2018 for the VB performance. They have since added dates to the tour. This is a good thing, because at the end of the show you had a sense of both joy and sadness. Joy for the legacy, sadness that this was the end for Skynyrd Nation. Tuesday's Gone, but I can still smell That Smell.

Saw original LS three times. The 3rd time was with 38 Special and Foreigner on their first tour. It was 3 months before the tragic plane crash. This was an awesome show. Skynyrd was so tight, when one guitar player stopped his solo and the next guy started, if you weren't watching you couldn't tell when they switched. They were that tight. It was right before Street Survivors was released. They did play this song, though, saying it was a new song. So the first time I heard That Smell was live.

The CD Street Survivor Had a cover with the band in Flames. The band members most on fire were the ones who died. The record company immediately pulled it and replaced with the same picture of the band, but with a black background. I did find a original copy for myself. R.I.P Ronnie van Zant and the others who died in the crash.

Thanks for the shout out again. You put a smile on my face when I needed it most. You see today my family and I had to make a decision on our brothers health care, his debilitating disease Myotonic Dystrophy had ultimately withered his muscles to the point where he couldn’t breath on his own anymore. Rather than he live the rest of his life attached to a ventilator, we decided to put an end to his suffering. We decided to take him off of the ventilator and let my brother die in peace. At 4:10 this afternoon my brother, my best friend whom I lived all my life with passed on to be with my mother , father and my other brother (who died of the very same disease 10 years ago). Rest In Peace Joe, you will be sorely missed. Again, thank you for the shout out, it was severely needed today. \m/ Stay Metal \m/

I was a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan here in the UK and bought the Street Survivors album soon as it was released in the UK. The album cover ironically had flames surrounding the band on the cover and the record sleeve is thick red card and it says 'Lynyrd Skynyrd Tots 1977-78 on one side with the dates and places where they were performing for their tour. The sleeve states the Greenville Memorial Aud. Greenville, SC performance was on the 19th and the L.S.U. Assembly Center Baton Rouge, LA performance was being played on 21st. I think I remember way back being told by my mate who worked in the record shop I bought the LP from that they had requested any unsold albums with the band surrounded by flames and the red sleeve be returned as it was being changed due to the tragedy and the albums later had a plain white paper record sleeve and the picture on the front was replaced with the picture from the rear of the original released album with a black background. The track 'That Smell' was my favourite on the album and when you listen to it you realise its anti drugs as two of the band members had near fatal car accidents due to their intoxication from drugs and then trying to drive, one of them at least ended up hitting a tree.

Also, if you haven't heard of him, check out Victor Borge, a classical pianist that has a great comedy routine with it. I was gonna suggest this too. The original rock n roll wild man. Kel, you think raising your shoulder up while playing piano is crazy? This man played with both hands while stomping his feet on the piano keys too. ... He also married his 13 year old first cousin when he was 23 back in the 1950s... So, yeah, he was pretty crazy, but someone to look at if you wanna learn to rock on piano.

Gary Rossington (guitarist in red) had a bad drug habit and wrecked his car and almost died. That's what this song is about. The original members still with them at this point were Rossington, Ricky Medlocke (the guy with the long blond hair) and Billy Powell on the piano. Sadly only Rossington is still alive.

From Jacksonville, Fl same as LS. Back in those days environmental regs were not as stringent as today. Several chemical companies and pulp wood mills in the area contributed to us having a rather pungent odor. As a teen with no access to lyrics I thought they were referring to the city, that smell. It was a joke, or not, that airline pilots said they could tell when they flew into JAX because of the smell. Fortunately our city leaders grew some cojones and tightened up laws on pollution quite a bit. Much better now 50 years later.

Written mainly about Gary Rossington by RVZ & Allen Collins. The song basically describes GR's accident. He just bought a new Ford Grand Torino, got wasted & crashed it into a tree, then a house. Ouch, more ouch. They (LS) weren't too happy at the time because they had to postpone THE upcoming tour. due to his accident while he healed up & recovered. We all know what happened next after that.

@@Kel.N.RichReactions Can't get enough of your reactions - your facial expressions are priceless lol. On a slightly more serious note, a very special reaction idea: I used to have a full analog audio rig, with an audiophile-quality turntable and cartridge, and one of my great delights was listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album. I would love to see you guys react to this if it were possible, because it is a truly mind-blowing experience, even without mind altering substances lol. Another reason is so that you can experience the difference between analog and digital audio. Whilst digital (at least PCM digital) is technically "perfect" by some definitions, it is actually very difficult on the ears, especially in the higher frequencies, where it can be downright painful. In contrast, fully analog recordings can be cranked to very high levels before becoming unlistenable (as long as overall distortion is kept low). I realize this is probably rather impractical, but if you have an high-end audio dealer near you who's willing to cooperate ya never know... Otherwise, all the best to y'all and happy listening :-)

That Smell was about drug use. In the 60's and 70's it was more acceptable to use all kinds of drugs. But the mood and personalities changes always came with a price. Several people that were hanging out with the band were using. You can usually tell because they would have "that smell". If you were smoking weed you can tell. If you were doing coke, you could tell. If you were doing H, you could tell. Ronnie was really pissed off about it, the use of drugs while touring. He told several people that if they didn't clean up their act they were history. That is when he wrote this song. Of course, quite a few people were forced to move on as well. :-)
