Lynyrd Skynyrd is undoubtedly the standard bearer for Southern Rock. Jacksonville, Florida is the birthplace of Southern Rock as we know it. Other bands from Jax. would include The Allman Brothers, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, and Blackfoot.

One of my all time favourite Skynyrd songs. The blues breaks and slide guitar are just amazing. Billy Powell's piano is amazing. It has a sassy southern fried chicken vibe about it. That guitar assault. Nobody does it like Skynyrd.

I truly enjoy watching you' all experiencing Skynyrd. You are correct that their message was one of Freedom. If you enjoyed watching the spectacular Steve Gaines (along with the amazing Allen Collins and Gary Rossington) you might also enjoy another great guitarist named Robin Trower and in particular I would love to see the reaction to Day of the Eagle. Cheers

Glad that you all enjoyed it so much ! I think it'saying "I live life to the Full." Clean musicianship - great running guitar riffs - solid piano - it moves; it jumps; it flows ! Super !

I thoroughly love this song especially the work of Billy Powell on piano and Steve Gaines on guitar. It is one of the best collaborations between these two instruments I think I've ever heard. Steve joins Ronnie on vocals which is really special. I'd really love for you guys to do Free Bird... By the way, this song was released in 1977 making it 42 years old more or less but it is a timeless classic as all Lynyrd Skynyrd songs are. Did I mention Free Bird?

Was gonna be my very first concert. I remember sitting out in the driveway listening to the radio and hearing about the crash. Their next stop after Louisiana was where i was going to see them. I litteraly cried. Broke my heart.

Other suggestions "The Needle and the Spoon", "Simple Man", "What's Your Name?", "Don't Ask Me No Questions". All are great examples of Lynyrd Skynyrd's classic Southern Rock sound. Keep up the good work. Your channel is awesome!!!

This song was to be the new kind of vocals Skynyrd was going to bring with Ronnie VanZant and Steve Gaines combine vocals. If was not for the plane crash in October of 1977 that took the lives of Ronnie, Steve and back up vocalist and Steve's sister Cassie Gaines, this would have been the start of a new more highly loved band. I'm 64 and was lucky enough to see Lynyrd Skynyrd live a few times even got to shake Ronnie us hand before they went on stage in Atlanta Georgia. There is very little I do not know about this group from Band members that left and why to new members to even when Ronnie is little brother took the band and kept it going. I would suggest you listen to the very last album they did call LAST OF A DYING BREED, The whole album is rock solid and in my mind the best Skynyrd after the plane crash and Johnny VanZant took over as lead singer. Any questions just ask. I probably know more about LS than most.

First big hit with Steve Gaines as lead and Ronnie in a secondary role. He thought that one day Steve would be the leader of the Band

Most of Lynyrd Skynyrd's songs were written from the early 1970's up to 1977, which was the year they had their plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines. But the remaining original members got back together ten years later in 1987 for a tribute tour. Ironically the Street Survivors album was only released three days before the plane crash.

Maybe my favorite song by Skynyrd. And that is saying something, as I love almost everything they did. But this song was written by their new guitarist at the time Steve Gaines. Gaines was an incredible guitarist and song writer (proven by the fact that Ronnie Van Zant Allowed Gaines to sing lead vocals on a song that Gaines also wrote for one of their albums. Not sure by I think he may be the only person Ronnie ever shared the lead vocals with). Ronnie thought so much of Steve that he said “one day we will all be working for Steve Gaines, he is that good”. High praise coming from Ronnie Van Zant. I love the fact that you two have taken such a liking to Skynyrd. Prolly the greatest southern rock band in history. Peace and love.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard their plane crashed. Heading home from an auto auction with a 67 Chevelle SS that I had bought for $860. I had to pull over listen to the news and take in what I had just heard. Wish I had that car today. I do have 2 of this album before they removed the flames.

Southern Rock is great and like it's parent Country Music, they are both about story telling. There is also a genre referred to as Northern Rock. The best example of it, in my opinion is Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.

I always knew the radio play of Lynyrd Skynyrd of popular song like Free Bird, Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme 3 steps. Was not a huge fan until this album came out. May I suggest the song That Smell off this album
