Charoit, Kane said the offence is being snuffed due to Lalondes system. Plus Lalonde said they've been practicing everyday and the night before the game went longer than usual. So know wonder there sluggish and tired

Everyone seems to ignore that this team's heater last season was driven entirely by an unsustainable shooting percentage. The offense was ALWAYS way worse than people seemed to think. When regression happened, this is what the team was always going to be. The team can't expect every low % shot to go in and now that they aren't, the roster isn't talented enough to maintain possession or create high danger shots. The forwards group is simply what it always was: defensively irresponsible and bottom half of the league.

Disagree that Edvinsson was trying to do too much offensively. Need the defense to carry the puck up ice when you have two centers in Veleno and Copp who cannot stick handle. Lalonde needs to get over his stubborn belief that NHL defenseman need to be 6 ft 4 " to compete" and play Johansson.

Is lalonde the coach to bring us to the next level? We’ve seen time and time again, we have talent but it is not meshing. I feel like if we keep looking this way, we need to start looking towards new coaching.

I'm glad to hear this I thought I was the only one -- I have been having a hard time watching their games - they are brutal to watch . This is supposed to be rebuilding - they have one of the oldest rosters in the NHL , they are slow . The defense aside from Seider , Edvinsson is not NHL caliber. And as far as coaching goes - I am sorry it is like ground hog day - it is the same thing over and over again .

I think Yzerman gets way too much flack for the signings he's made. Repeat after me, YOU HAD TO OFFER SUPAR PLAYERS TERM AND MONEY TO GET THEM TO COME TO DETROIT DURING THAT PHASE OF THE REBUILD. By the time the contracts are up it will have 0 implications on this team. I think the only thing people can gripe about is him doing it right before a historical draft.

Even in a hellscape of subpar players, no one, not one single person, forced Steven Yzerman to sign Justin Holl to that contract. No gun to his head. No imperative that Justin Holl needed a spot on this team at that term and price. So, no. I won't repeat after you...

I think it's fair to criticize him for moving away from his own plan too soon. I think Yzerman felt the pressure and started signing vets to improve the team faster when he should have allowed them to bottom out another year or two. Add Bedard or Celebrini to this team and the rebuild is OVER. The rebuild was declared over before we ever got the talent at the top of the draft we desperately needed. Yzerman has drafted the rest of the core. He's drafted the supporting cast of a contender. That's great, but the hole where elite talent should be is still there. The NHL changed the lottery format because it screwed the Wings so badly. It was a huge mistake to never take advantage of the new system.

Anytime we beat one of the NY goaltenders it's a cause for celebration. It wasn't pretty but 2 points... we'll take it! Great game. Tonight (Thursday) it's not exactly NYC but it is Markstrom (a good goalie) sitting in Marty Brodeur's net for those who can remember 1995 and the sweep. The Devils defense is still depleted. Luke Hughes going by last years performance still isn't ready for prime time and neither is Nemec. Brett Pesce is the D-Man that the Devils are really missing. Dougie Hamilton is a mostly offensive defensemen but still pretty good if he concetrates, better than most of what they have at the moment. We should beat the Devils tonight, later in the year it's going to be more difficult to do than it will be tonight. The Devils are feeling it on offense. Jack is hitting his stride offensively but they have him playing center, that's not the position he excels at. I'm looking for Kasper and Larkin to work him over. The Devils Captain Nico Hischier is on fire! He's playing great on both ends of the ice. Timo Meier is heating up too. We have to be careful with them but we can beat them. Enjoy it, it should be fun. GRW!

Look at last season, please. They got a bunch of "win is a win" wins while playing objectively terrible, non-winning hockey. They eventually regressed from an historic shooting % and didn't just fail to make the playoffs, they galvanized irrevocably unrealistic expectations in fans about the state of the rebuild. This isn't a good team and they aren't playing winning, responsible, or skillful hockey. The parity in the league of course means any team might win on any given night but over an entire season this team is not playing competitive hockey.

Red Wings aside, the league has made some awful decisions regarding broadcasting and scheduling this season. More blackouts than ever and they reduced in-division match ups making the playoff format even more pointless. Can't wait for the shitty frozen four tournament that excludes great hockey nations and a country, specifically, Russia who have some of the biggest stars in the game. But yeah let's exclude them because of political garbage.
