The 80's machines were so awesome , You are so fun to watch ... so detailed in how you explain it, just a fun experience.. the things you say make me smile and laugh.... When we move soon i'll be getting some Pinball machines for our game room in our house ... I'd like to get some tips and tricks from you and maybe a way to get parts for them through you or your friends at the pinball parts place you've mentioned a few times in your videos..I'm in Ontario Canada , there aren't as many places here as there are in the US to get parts for pinball machines... I really love to as you do restore these fun machines to just enjoy as we did in the 80's.. i love Gottlieb , and Williams machines the one that s beside the bad girls machines, Speed is a blast. The pinball machine Funhouse is a great machine.. The backboards you have on the wall for these Gottlieb machines are just so much fun even alone ..... Just getting inside them and cleaning them up making them all go again like you do just makes you feel so accomplished .. just as it does me .. Same with the jukeboxes ... Beautiful job as always bud .. Can't wait to see the end outcome of these machines .... don't ever change the way you do your videos, i love them just the way they are they are long and full of fun details and explanations and we get to follow your own repair journey.. NO ONE does it like you do it making it not only fun to watch but just the articulation and detail to repair you put in to each machine.. That's what makes your video's so special .. That actual treasure trove of information on how much the pinball machines made on location was a fantastic bit of history to find ! ... One of these days when i'm in the United States and in your area I've got to drop in, explore this grand store of yours , it would be an absolute honer and pleasure to shake your hand and get to meet you . Thank you again for taking the time to record your repairs and en-devours my friend. Stay Awesome !

Thanks for the kind words, we appreciate you watching regularly, it makes us feel like we're not wasting our time :) The two best pinball parts places are www.PBResource.com and www.MarcoSpec.com and I'm pretty sure both will happily ship to Canada so when you get your machines we'll get them all serviced up :)

Great video, Joe. Very entertaining, as always. I love your breakdown of the money that was earned by Bad Girl #2 vs Road Kings. That's some excellent research there! Glad to see some love for the Gottlieb 80s games! I love them too: had some 80Bs in the past like Bad Girls, TX-Sector and Night Moves. At this point I own a Black Hole and a fixer-upper '82 Striker. Which is also a weird one, but mainly for the playfield layout. Keep 'em flippin'!

Yeah! I love 80s Gottliebs too. I own a Gold Wings and a Diamond Lady myself. ^_^ They don't get the play that my Joker Poker does...but..... Cactus Jacks is a system 3. You can tell by where the score display is. Much like 1812...which is another fun Gottlieb that I own...still doesn't get the play that Joker Poker does. ~_~

Great video and I'm impressed that you're doing both machines at the same time! Nice reference to the Rockwell and Michael Jackson song. If you didn't know, Rockwell is the son of Berry Gordy, who founded and used to own Motown Records. Those Gottlieb 80's backglass pieces are indeed "unique."

Ahhhhh, I didn't know that's who Rockwell was, that makes a lot more sense now. Thanks!

I love system 80b Gottliebs! I hope people continue to hate on them so the prices stay low. They are absolute gems with amazing gameplay and awesome 80s art
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm frankly kind of surprised when people hate on them. I've heard people complain about the boardsets and electronics too, I honestly don't know what they're complaining about. They're a little different electronically but the boards are pretty rock solid. If you compare the boardsets to Williams, the Williams games fail much more often, but with that said everybody knows how to fix the Williams stuff so I guess that's the attraction there. I love the Williams stuff too, however.
@that_pinball_metal_dood1695 жыл бұрын
Joe's Classic Video Games Absolutely, I own two solid state Williams games and two EM Gottliebs and they are both incredible. I worked as a pinball repair tech and we had a Spring Break that performed exceptionally on the floor. It worked non-stop for two years and the play field is so unique and fun with a loaded art package. The System 3s are indestructible as well! Really hope to get more room for Gottliebs here soon. I would love a Diamond Lady or a Bad Girls. You NEVER see or get to play them

I think I remember that Playboy game, it had a magnetic beaded curtain out of ball chain on the left of the playfield that would part to reveal a naked model on a target when lit.

I really enjoy your videos they are always interesting :) I just bought an original back glass from the USA yesterday for a 1960's Gottlieb bank a ball. It doesn't look too bad from the pictures (I haven't seen it in the flesh as yet) but it clearly has flaking in some areas. I want to restore it and keep it as an original art piece but have no idea how to do this so I guess i'll have to learn by doing :) anyway thanks for the content its always fun
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Duff Duff... the secret to those backglasses is, clean the back the best you can then seal it with clear coat (triple thick works great, it's an actual product used for glazing pottery). Once it's sealed, if you touch it up with water based paints and make a mistake you can wipe it off and be back where you started.

Mario Andretti looks like Jackie Chan? That's a rather "race-ist" comment. :D Watching these vids is jogging loose memories of my computer engineering classes back in college in the late 1980s, this time about bridge rectifiers. They simply remove the negative portion of the AC sine wave, with the output going into that big cap, which charges it up and outputs a steady DC voltage. Converting AC to DC is wicked easy, but DC to AC is much more of a challenge!

I was close from importing a "Bad Girls" from Finland some years ago, along with some Zaccaria games, but the deal fizzled out. Dont forget to do the ground mod on it LOL
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
This one was so late in the game that they had pretty much fixed the ground problem on the transformer, the earlier ones were problematic but this one they used independent pins for everything, it worked pretty good.
@SwedishEmpire17005 жыл бұрын
@@LyonsArcade From what ive learned from the masters all SYS80b games need the groundmods done, since those pins they hooked them up with could go shoddy after awhile, but then again this game is very late so you can be right too.
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
There's a couple different issues, the gameboards don't have a common ground which can cause problems, the transformer in the bottom had bad connections on it which would make coils lock on, but by the last few games they had fixed it by installing individual pins on molex connectors on the transformer. I think it was the last 3 games, and I think this one was the third from the last.

Ron, discovered your videos recently and have been binging ever since. Curious why not install an ultra-cap instead of the button battery. Seems like a good fit for any machine that has the battery charging function. I fixed my AMI juke the same way. Also, no need for blocking diode of course. Great content!
@LyonsArcade4 жыл бұрын
Those do work just fine, the only thing is if you don't play them for a couple weeks the capacitor discharges... we sell these to people for their home and generally they won't even go into the test menu to fix anything :) Thanks for watching svgalib, we appreciate it :)

Haha I am nuts but as soon as I saw the strip on the pin that was a little bit to the left of the Bad Girls I knew it was High-Speed I know that machine well I did a full restore on mine. It was a trash bin that looks nice now. And for me I would have noticed as the first one you setup had rust on the plunger the one on the left has a much better shinier manual plunger. And this video might change my mind on Gottliebs at first I did not care for the cheesy themed pins. But I am kicking myself for not picking up a Gottlieb Genesis for only $500 at a convention awhile back. I played it and did like it but did not have the $500 I only had $300. >.
@LyonsArcade4 жыл бұрын
They're just kind of different, like you said the themes are horrible but they're so horrible it's kind of funny enough to make you enjoy them. They tried to make each game different than most of the stuff that was out at the time, some of it worked some didn't! Genesis is pretty fun, we have some videos on here of that one for sure!

Are you joking pronouncing Gottlieb as "Got Lib?" Maybe the joke was in a previous video I haven't seen. I'm pretty sure it should be "Got Leeb?" It's a common first and last name in German. It is actually one of Mozart's middle names - not Amadeus, which is more of a joking nickname as one of his baptized middle names was Theophilus (Loved by God in Greek) and translated to German as Gottlieb (God's Love) and then to Latin as Amadeus (to love God.) But I say all that to say that Lieb or Liebe (Love) is definitely pronounced with a long E sound between the L and the B. Outside of that, I enjoy your videos as they are well done and informative.
@LyonsArcade4 жыл бұрын
Christopher, with all due respect I don't really care how gottlieb is pronounced, in case you haven't noticed I have a heavy accent. I will never understand how people can watch an hours worth of something I took the trouble to film, then their only comment is to tell me I'm wrong about something.
@christopherthomasorr4 жыл бұрын
Joe's Classic Video Games wow. Okay, that wasn’t my only comment and I wasn’t meaning to come across as rude about it. I’m sorry that I apparently failed in that regard. My apologies.

@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
The number was bigger but it changed less week to week, meaning it was getting played less each week. all the plays that drove the number up happened before it got to that location....
@SamuliTuomola_stt5 жыл бұрын
23:30 hmm so you'd need >20 machines on location to pay ~50k/y salary for one guy, and that's after those couple of years that the machines paid themselves off, and doesn't account for any maintenance costs.. doesn't sound very profitable :/
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
It wasn't as profitable as people think, especially in that time period. Some of the early games just printed money though, and the poker machines made millions. I had an operator tell me that Defender made him over $800 a week when it first came out. Keep in mind too most of these operators split the coins with the location!
@SamuliTuomola_stt5 жыл бұрын
yep guess it's the image of cartoon riches that makes people envious when you haul off buckets of quarters, lol heard somewhere that 1981 just in US arcade made more money than hollywood and music business combined, not sure how accurate that is but totally believe that about Defender. Williams' are my favorites of golden era videos, gameplay-wise, Atari more for the tech and docs.. don't really get the whole video poker/fruit machine/pachinko thing though but each to their own 🙈
