Ron I owe you! I've had a $2500 tracking power supply in my electronics lab that has been erratic for a few years. It is stuffed to the max, and complicated as all get out. Today I systematically tore it down and followed your teachings. Under the microscope I finally saw the cracked solder around the remote voltage feedback pin! I resoldered all the connectors, and now it's solid as a rock!
@LyonsArcade3 жыл бұрын
Very nice work... now that you've been in there touching it up it'll probably last another 25 years before you have to mess with it again :) The feeling when you save one of these things is awesome, it's just cool to me how for instance on your power supply everything was working, there was just 1 little thing that needed you to find it, and help it just slightly and it'd do the rest. So you found that one little problem, put just a little solder on it (no cost)... and the power supply took it from there and every other part of it worked how it was supposed to. These things are inanimate, they don't have souls, but the people who designed them and built them did.

Ron, I love your paint jobs that you do to try and color match things. Adds another chapter to this machines life. And it almost feels like the old operator just grabbed a paint set and touched things up themselves so that they didn't have to higher someone to do it for them. As for your restoration style, it feels to more about getting it reliably working again. Now that it works, lets see if we can make it pretty.

More outstanding work Ronnie. The yellow touch up was so good that even when you were showing the area, I couldn’t actually notice that anything had been done. …. the art of making it seem like you were never there! Fantastic. ….. still hoping to see a gameplay video of The Bride of Pinot. … please don’t abandon those videos. … you play just fine for me and millions of other folks. …. If some people can’t help but be ultra competitive … then they should just go on some game show. I love the gameplay videos, as the icing on the cake. Keep on keeping on Ronnie.

Thank you for watching Mark yes the Yellow turned out really nice, in person I really couldn't even tell where I had painted it, that was some of the closest I've ever done. My new thing is I'm adding a little bit of green to things, I never thought about that before but everything on the playfields kind of has a yellowish green tint, I've been making them more yellow when I mix the paint but I only recently have tried adding a little green. Thanks for watching as always!

I had to have a little smile at the paint branding. Could confuse some people. Paint branded Enamels, but it is an Acrylic paint. Someone was out to confuse the world lol. That feathering technique is really good for smoothing the edges off so the different height isn't as noticeable too. It's used by professionals in plastering as well as painting :). You somehow do it better than most though. Shows the love you put into it, rather than it just being a job. I love these late EM's. Getting pretty fancy, in many ways more features than a lot of the early solid states. The clicking and snapping of solenoids and relays, the bells. It just is what pinball should be in my eyes. Maybe I am old lol. As a note, have you changed camera recently? The colour balance is great, but the focus has been really soft in the last few videos.

How often do you need to rewax a play field?
@LyonsArcade3 жыл бұрын
When you start seeing dirt on it. You'll see little areas that get a little line (like in the inlanes) and you'll have dirty looking rubber rings... wax is actually a cleaner, it'll clean the playfield when it starts getting dirty. On an older game like this the ball moves slower so maybe every 4 or 500 plays? something to that effect.
