Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor - A first impression in Secret Garden

They are lovely and work well with the Polychromos. Good price and quality. This was my first big set of pencils I bought. I think people overlook them quite often.

I have dropped a few of mine...none have broken. They do work well with others. Prismacolor adds extra depth on top of them. You will LOVE the big set!

"Do I need them?" Heck no! But we have a passion for pencils, do we not? After only 8 months of adult coloring I have amassed an army of over 1,200 colored pencils which include all the big boys on the block, with the sole exception being the Holbein set from Japan! But I've had my eye on these for months now and your review sealed the deal! But two questions raise their ugly heads. How do I rationalize buying another set of pencils and how do I sneak them past the pencil police? LOL!!!

This is the first session I've watched with you and very much enjoyed your Lyra work, I have a set and never thought about using oil based and wax based pencils in one work, I have also many full sets of pencils and Lyra finds it's way to the back more often than not, that will change now after watching your work. I have these as well and I’m enjoying your reviews greatly. I find different pencils need a different hand at times depending on the paper and their leads but you’re helping me with the ones I don’t have as much love for which to be frank is only 2 sets so far. 🙏🌹

Greetings from Minnesota - The Land of 10,000 Lakes! I just bought this LYRA Rembrant polycolor 24 pencil set. I swatched the set on a bee watercolor paper. These pencils blended beautifully with a touch of gamsol on the tip of a #5 blending stub!! I also tried a prisma colorless blender pen ( nice blend!) I also tried a prisma colorless blending pencil and a Caran d' arche full bright blending pencil - The Bee Paper I used to swatch on was 140lb. Cold Pressed paper so, the these blending results were as expected. Hope you find this info a helpful addition to your use of the, Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor Pencils.

Would you believe if I told you they are both produced in the same town or province in Germany? Yep, Lyra and Faber Castell are German made.

In Germany you can get the Lyra from open stock , those as well as the water solubles. And they are rather cheap, I bought them for 1,19 € per pencil. Only thing is, not all cores match the colours on the barrel, especially the lighter ones.

At one point in time Faber-Castell used to supply the cores for Lyra. So they already had a plant and people, and worked to develop their own.

Looks so awesome these pencils! I want them so badly!! I see 100 set on Amazon, so 72 is not the complete set! It is 100 pencils plus accessories and only available in wooden box.. For $164.83 😰 Thank you so much for sharing!! I appreciate your camera picking up awesome close shots so I can see the texture of pencil on the paper, very helpful 😘😘

I own the entire art set in the wood box. As colored pencils go for Lyra, the full set is 72. The art set has other types of pencils for sketching, etc...

I came across a 36p set today at a back-to-school sale and debated to myself about getting it. What prevented me from the purchase was its lack of pink colours (and also because I already own close to 400 pencils!). Unfortunately, the store doesn't carry the 72p set or I would not hesitate.

I treated myself to the biggest set of 72. They cost about R750 in South Africa. 72 Polychomos would cost me about R6000! I will get a few Polychromos open stock in colours I don't have.

Deirdre Lewis try a website called Loot. They sell Faber castell Polychromos for R38 a pencil. Which will work out a bit cheaper. I have a set of 80 and it cost me R3040.

these pencils look great. im always looking to learn. i notice when you colour, you rub with your thumb/finger. why is this? also, is the aim to fill the white spots of paper, ie, saturate the paper with colour? thanks

No they are not, but you do get a set of Lyra aquarelle which is water-soluble.
