It's come to my attention that BONOBOS is pronounced BON-o-bos in the UK and bo-NO-bos in the US. My comments are based on the UK pronunciation. I'm from the US, but have never heard it pronounced bo-NO-bo! I don't know how that's possible, but there you have it. 😄 With the US pronunciation, that line is PERFECT trochaic meter: bo-NO-bos FA-vor FULL ro-MANCE. Sorry for any confusion! -Renée

Thank you for the trochaic meter writing prompt opportunity. I am not a writer, but I am a budding editor who loves learning. Here is my response to the writing prompt: Rain poured in like gifts on our wedding day. Plick pluck pin--wind drifts and the branches sway. Trees sweep the land like a brush. Rain wets the leaves in a hush.

I'm working on a PB manuscript and it felt natural to write it in truncated trochaic meter, but I wasn't sure if that was "acceptable." I didn't even know what terminology to use to describe it. Thank you for another helpful video!

You are very welcome! And yes, trochaic meter is very often truncated -- good instincts!

Hi Renee! How might the poem change in terms of keeping the meter if the word 'bonobos' was recited with American English pronunciation? (Stress on the second syllable). Loved this tutorial!! Need to go back and review my 'meters' - feeling pretty rusty! :)

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! I have never heard it pronounced bo-NO-bo!!!! How is that possible -- I'm American! Hahahaha. I have always said BON-o-bos, but now I see that it is indeed a UK pronunciation!? I was clearly born in the wrong country. I hope this doesn't mess people up too much. Oops! With the US pronunciation, that line is PERFECT. Argh. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I'll see if I can add a note to the video. :)

Hi, Jasz! I receive many submissions and unfortunately cannot review them all. I try to choose pieces that will cover several concepts at once. Do you remember when you submitted your writing?

Hello. Can you recommend any book for meter, rhyme and scansion? I have been writing poetry for a long time in Spanish but is really hard to equal the level in other language. I got me a couple of books but I am not satisfied. I need something more technical. The sounds of poetry (Pinsky). Writing poems (Robert wallace). Nothing wrong with those but it's not what I need. Atentamente: Gerardo Leiva.

Hi Gerardo. Look into these two books by Mary Oliver: A Poetry Handbook and Rules of the Dance. You might also look at Ann Whitford Paul's book Writing Picture Books, as she has a chapter on writing in meter. If you search online, you will also find many sites that explain meter!

Hello, @Vaw ! These are two lines of trochaic tetrameter -- that's four stressed beats in each line, like this: TELL me NOT in MOURN-ful WAYS HOW might COME the END of DAYS Hope that helps!
