Welcome to JustTenMoreMinutes aka JTMM aka The Freakin 10! This song hits hard. I am interested to watch the history for this one. The beat matches the song and the lyrics paints the clear picture.

I also like how “nothing remains…” and “death from above” at the end sound like radio transmissions like Midway

Love you react to the old songs. This one describes the destructive carpet bombing strategy of the Allies during WWII. The Germans bomb England, but the allies send more bombers to the Germans, and with more destructive bombs. You can see here the difference in style between the old songs to the new ones. Nice reaction!

TY my friend. I love hearing these older songs because it truly shows the style both in music and lyrics. You can definitely see the writing add more rhymes over the years but they don't lose any meanings. This is why I love how Par and Joakim work together to transform stories of war to beautiful informative music masterpieces!

Not spoiling history video so just a few names: Hamburg, Dresden, Tokio (and Coventry and in same way Nagasaki and Hiroshima but they have dedicated song - Nuclear Attack). But main story is Hamburg.

Thank you it helps me understand it before watching the history. That would be my only criticism of the song is that for those that are not aware of where they were talking about to mention a city etc. Obviously the history will point it out but wish the song would of clued us in, but that is like a miniscule critique lol

When asked about song writing, one thing Joakim often talks about is how "the music and the story they are telling have to speak same emotional language". Basically, if it's about an agressive battle it's propably going to be a faster harder song (Ghost Division, Screaming Eagles, Attero Dominatus). On the other hand, if it's about something bittersweet or sad etc. then they might go more melodic, slower or "smaller" (Christmas Truce, Lifetime of War, Ballad of Bull) It's difficult to say for sure who wrote what % of the lyrics on almost any Sabaton song since Joakim and Pär apparently decide the topics together + they will see and comment on the wording before it's finalized, even when one of them takes the lead on a song. And on the music side of it, I think there is propably around 12-20 songs out of over 120 original songs that have someone other than Joakim contributing to the music enough, to warrant a composing credit. Joakim is credited for music on every single song. The only song I know for sure, of the top of my head was written 100% by only one of them is "Metal Machine", Joakim's lyrics with absolutely no contribution from Pär, it's one of their heavy metal tribute songs (not military history). I don't want to spoil the story on that one, but it's funny, Joakim will tell it way better than I could anyway if/when you get to the histories on the "metal trilogy" (yes they did a few history episodes on metal music).

They have me wanting to write songs again about harder topics than the ballads I usually love to write.

I don't know of this has already been mentioned but The Art Of War album is a sort of concept album where the 13 songs represent the 13 chapters in Sun Tzu's book. So some of the songs (like this one) are more about a general war tactic rather than a specific battle or person. This is chapter 12 'Attack By Fire'. Ghost Division and Price Of A Mile are also on this album and represent Chapters 2 and 11, which are about fast dynamic warfare and understanding terrain/surroundings respectively. Although Price Of A Mile is obviously more of a example of what not to do as regards terrain and surroundings in war.

@@JTMMTV yes I am good thanks. I actually only realised about the album being a sort of concept album fairly recently. I have been a fan of the band since back when that album came out but only got round to picking up the proper CD years later and the CD booklet explains it. It's very impressive really, to write an album where each song has to be about a specific war tactic and so you have to research to find battles that showcase that specific topic and then write lyrics and music that conveys it with the right feeling and energy. V clever.

I do not like the song, but I appreciate Sabaton for choosing the topic to sing about. I think that what the Allies did was an atrocity in itself. Sun Tsu writes in his book about this in a chapter, The attack by fire. In modern terms translated to: Carpet bomb their cities and grind them to dust. The aim of this strategy used by the Allies in July 1943 was to demoralize the enemy so that peace or surrender becomes preferable to continuing the conflict. They dropped thousands of bombs over Hamburg. Fires so many that they merged together into a single storm of fire. Structures combusted under the immense heat, as strong winds drove the inferno through the streets at rapid speed. Craving for more oxygen, the firestorm sucked human bodies into the flames and immediately incinerated or mummified them. Thousands of others died slowly of carbon monoxide poisoning in their shelters. By the end of the raid, 60% of Hamburg had been burned out and more than 35,000 of its inhabitants were dead. But while the Germans were shocked to disbelief, for the British the firestorm has worked as intended.
