I was able to drive up to the lake a few years ago, someone moved all the rocks and wasn’t all rutted out. There used to be a cement picnic table right by the water. Beautiful spot

Lost Lake was created by the San Andreas Fault. It is considered “bottomless” because it was formed by the San Andreas Fault, and is fed by the deep natural springs in the area.

Lost lake is a sag pond. It is on the SA fault line... and every so many years a plate tectonic shift can pinch of the springs naturally feeding it causing it to dry up. That's how it got its name... not because it's hard to find... but because it can disappear. I went there quite often over the last 30 years... yet I have only seen it dried up once. It was used to combat either the pilot or blue cut fire... was pretty much depleted and took a couple years to recover.

Well it was open until this past rainfall and is now closed again. We sponsor the main trail right there from the gate in the beginning of your video. Thanks for loving the trail as much as we do.

I drove up to that lake last year when it was open then there's a trail to the right (heading east) you can drive around the north side of the lake to a trail that goes deeper up in the hills but it eventually comes back down to a locked gate owned by the railroad. There's also a 1920s or 30s car abandoned up there. There may be another way in through a riverbed if you don't mind lot's of pinstripes

Someone else mentioned this. They said it was a Rolls Royce or fancy Pontiac of some sort..

Lost lake is a sag pond created from The San Andreas. If you travel on the old Ridge route there are several more. They are on top of the California's biggest Earthquake Fault.

Great video. I miss that place. I know a few locals up there. Humble people. By the way the area near the creek is the Applewhite Picnic Area. The campsite is about 0.2 miles down the road. Applewhite campground.

Lytle creek is trashed. People leave their trash, diapers, beer cans all over the place there. Then they literally bathe in the water like it’s a bathtub. Pretty disgusting.
