This series took place before cell phones. I think at that time a select few had what was called " the Brick" a cellphone the size shape and weight of a construction brick 🧱

Remember that when this show originally aired in 1985, the 911 service was only available to about half the US. I believe they would do another PSA in season 2 which recommended 911. (And the implementation of 911 has nothing to do with the rollout of cell phones.)
