I truly do think these are good monitors. Not the best, but very useable for a person with a limited budget. I have now been using them ever since this review came out and I have made recording that are still being played on TV, movies and radio!

I have owned a pair of D-2s for about 5 years now. One thing that I will recommend to you or anybody watching this video is an active subwoofer with a Built-in crossover, A high quality set of monitor floorstands, And a very high end DAC. These monitors need all of the above in order to be understood. 90% of people doing reviews on these monitors don't have the right environment and supporting equipment to understand how these are truly meant to be heard. When you cut the frequency off around 80 Hz, It transforms these monitors into a completely different animal. This monitors were designed to be used with M audio's powered sub woofer which features a Built-in crossover. They are not overly bassy by any means unless you are using them as is. Right now I'm using a 200 W JBL 3 series down firing active sub with a Built-in crossover, And a Roland octa capture.

I just ordered M-Audio Bx5 D2. It is my second pair of studio monitors. Can´t wait! The Bx8 D2 will be to big for my basement studio.

I've been looking at these monitors for a few weeks now and decided to see if there was reviews that could be helpful and I came across yours. You pretty much answered all my questions that I had about this monitor and you did a really great job in doing so. I listened to several ones by different companies and these by far stood out from the rest.

Man, you are on point!! I brought the M-Audio Bx5 D2 at guitar center three weeks ago. Before buying, I testing all the monitors in guitar center, I was really shock how these sound, and at that time I only brought these monitor for 99 bucks a pair. You can't beat that deal!! And I don't regret buying these.

Thank you so much! I'm actually making the same jump you did...I currently have BX5a monitors, and I am switching to these on Thursday. I have learned to mix on the BX5 model, but I have constantly had to run back and forth between cars and such to figure out what's going on in the low end. I've made professional mixes with them, but I'm tired of guesswork. Thank you for the review!

I got a set of these today and although I've only had them playing for about so far the early signs are very encouraging regarding the sound quality. I'm not going to push them until I've broken them in a lot more but even now they produce a very full bodied sound. The bass is tight but not overblown and the highs seem very clear, they're certainly a good match for my ddj rx and the hip hop/RnB I play. I'm very much looking forward to hearing the sound as they wear in and settle down☺

Are they bassy as in Krk rockit bassy? Cos mixing low END on krk's is a nightmare

Hello, thanks you for the review. But we can read everywhere that there's a humming problem on those speaker (when plugges and no music you hear the hum). Did you hear about it ? Because if yes, I think to go for a pair of Presonus E8. More expensive but more settings (and no humming). Thank you for your answer. Keep doing ! You're very helpful !

I'm someone who is very new to owning monitors in general...please tell me what kind of cables i need to connect them to my audio interface (Tascam us-1200). These monitors have 2 inputs (XLR and TRS) so i am unsure which i use.

I have a question, I've heard some of the new Neil Young tracks, which was done in a 1940s recording booth. So i have a question, I've been wanting to do some recordings in the style with me and a couple friends sometime. All in one recording, and using a condenser mic. Would rather not have to add the effect.. I know its a odd question.. ;p Do you know how to get that vintage style sound? Just curious :)

You are correct, those are bass heavy, and I don't think it's just a tad bit, I think it is way too much, the BX8's I recommend that more for production, not mixing, you want something that has some mid range, especially mid range for mixing, and those BX8's are pretty much highs, and lows. So BX8's for production, something else for mixing.

GaragebandandBeyond I was just about to say that.First was the studiophile bx8 then the bx8a delux and now the Bx8 D2. I just got the BX8 d2 and I am amazed. A lot of the reviews on the internet are from 2007 that are talking about the older versions. These new puppies have been nicely revamped in the bass department.

GaragebandandBeyond Yeah I have heard them, I hear them everyday, I sell these studio monitors, and many more, so I am always hearing different speakers for mixing and production; for production I always tell people to go to these, or the KRK RP8G3's, for mixing, I tell people to go with Yamaha HS8's, or JBL LSR308. For people with a bit of a bigger budget, Adam A7X's, Presonus Spectre's sound great, that coax driver really make the speakers have a solid response through out the whole spectrum. Also Dynaudio speakers are great.

Moises Martinez I hear ya, well our opinions differ I guess because I have been very happy with them and the resulting mixes. Plus they met my budget restraints. The KRK's are almost double in price and that just made them too expensive for me.

GaragebandandBeyond Are those sound blankets or moving blankets behind you. I have been offered tons of black moving blankets for really cheap and I was thinking of using some for a recording area, would you recommend it? Sometimes I feel like the people who bash moving blankets on forums work for big acoustic solution company's lol. I cant see it being night and day difference between the two but who knows.

I have this monitor for maybee 2 years and I think is really cheap monitor, I regret to buy M-Audio stuff, sound not good, all part inside is cheap and loose connection with time. Don't buy this if you want for long time, I have to repair my stuff and I see many people have the same problem, 1/4 jack is loose and the sound is bad, Really bad speaker for me, hate repair , sorry for my bad english...
