I bought this monitor and I using a DAC to connect to computer. When you hear a SACD the sound is AMAZING. You can hear when flute musician take a deep breath to make sound of the next part of score. I hear Credence in SACD or DCD in SACD, and is like the musicians are with you in the room. I love them and thanks you very much for the review, I totally agree with you! Cheers!

Excellent. Thank you for producing this. Literally. This is by far the most practical demonstrative evaluation video I've seen and heard in a very long time. I'm in the early stages of upgrading/updating everything to do with my sound recording requirements and preferences. New laptop on the way, pending is the DAW (replacing Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP - most likely MOTU M4), replacement for Yorkville active flat-response monitors. They sound very good to me, even after 10+ years. However, I simply cannot manage another move with approx 25lbs each speaker. I have to part with my 50lb+ MacPro as well - 2008 and still running like clockwork, but another anchor I must release. Time to lighten up, and rebuild my sonic arsenal and blast off into 2022. Have an awesome day! 🙏🏽😊🎸

You're reviewing literally the microphone - not the monitors!!! You've recorded those samples you are playing back with your mic -- so, you are reviewing the microphone to these people. Again: not the monitors.

I have the Bx5 d3's and the bx sub. It's a great combo.. SLP is amazing, sound stage fairly good and accuracy is stupendous. I crossover the sub at 120hz so as to take pressure off the bx5 woofers. The allows for much better accuracy from the bx5's 5 inch mid woofer. The BX sub is nearly impossible to find anymore. 😞

Great! Thank you! I have av40 and bx8 d2 for listening to music only. The av40's are amazing, but I was disappointed with bx8 d2. The twitter is harsh and bass is muddy. Av40's are very smooth and flat so I hope the bx5 d3's are bigger version of the av40 and not smaller of the bx8's.

Can you explain why you played the track recorded from the speakers, please? Surely the fact that I'm not listening to your speakers, but instead I'm listening to a sound coloured by my speakers, your microphone, your recording setup, my system's playback setup, and KZbin's setup, renders such an exercise useless? Aside from that (you're not the only one who does it, but hopefully you can explain it to me), you make quality content. Thanks for the review. I'm likely to get the bx8s.
@BretHalford2 жыл бұрын
i see it as the WAV file is your baseline. though it will be colored by all the things you mention, it is still the original example. now we get the sample recorded through the speakers which will go through all the same colorations. but since the original is there as a reference, now we can see how much the monitors add/ subtract from the original. i think this video was intended to show how accurate the sound is in a controlled environment. i think this would be useless WITHOUT the comparison between the two. it would definitely be impossible to get a good idea of how these sound if we were only given recordings of the speakers. i hope that made senses. it sounded good in my head!
@simon_patterson2 жыл бұрын
@@BretHalford I think I get what you're saying. The test is meant to show the *difference* between two audio sources. So the theory is that any difference I hear between the straight mp3 version and the one recorded using the speakers/microphone/sound card is the colouration caused by the speakers. The issue I have with the theory is that I don't know how much of the difference I'm hearing is the colouration caused by the speakers, compared to how much colouration is caused by the microphone's frequency response, the microphone placement, the room acoustics, or even the sound card. It's quite possible that the speakers are rendering the sound perfectly, however the test will show a very different sound caused by the microphone picking the sound up. Hope that makes sense, too!

I love ur explanation, your a good, well informed speaker, but the transitions break the flow of the video for me and i found them a bit annoying. The youtube timestamps you put in are more than enough to show the viewer which section of the video we're in, in my opinion

I’m about to buy the M-Audio BX5 D3 Studio Monitors but I have a question regarding them, do they come with the “stand by” or “eco” mode like the BX3/BX4? Because that’s the feature that is making me sell my current KRK Rokit 5, even with the volume on they turn off after 30 minutes, and I have to turn the volume knob all the way to wake them up, it’s annoying.

you think this setup is worth for some1 who just want to listen to music ?

I concur with the other user comments. Mine get hot, but not overly hot. It's normal for anything with an amplifier inside to heat up. I wouldn't worry about it. I've been using mine for 5 years with zero issues, despite many hours of use.
@HighlandStudio912 жыл бұрын
At the $300 price point & below....I agree that the M-Audio's are unbeatable. However....for another $40 per pair, the Pioneer VM-50's absolutely blow the M-Audio's out of the water in every respect(& the low end is so good, you can ditch your subwoofer.)

is there any hiss when the monitors are not reproducing music?
@sebasoilher84542 жыл бұрын
I would love to know that too
@ModernTechReviewsTV2 жыл бұрын
There is a slight hiss. Very very minimal, and you pretty much have to either get right up to it to hear it, or the environment has to be 100% silent. IMO this is an issue with virtually every speaker I have ever tested, even extremely expensive speakers. Somewhere along the line, most amps tend to pick up at least a slight hiss. But with these speakers, the hiss is so faint that I would almost say it doesn't exist.
@2Fa2Bu2 жыл бұрын
is it true that they overheat?
@ModernTechReviewsTV2 жыл бұрын
I've been using these now for 5 years and have never once had an issue with overheating. The backs of them is pretty hot to the touch, but not enough to burn me. They have never failed me, though, despite many many many hours of use.

Yeah, that’s going to be similar with any 5” monitor. If you want a little bass, I would suggest the 8” version by M-Audio. Otherwise, track down a subwoofer.
