Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh's First GAA Commentator Audition, 2004

Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh tells Pat Kenny about his audition to become a commentator for Gaelic Games.
As a student at the teacher training college in Drumcondra, Dublin he headed up to Croke Park for his test, which was on a hurling match, a game he had never even seen.
Trials were being held to find a commentator for the occasional match “as gaeilge”.

A great Irishman, I'd remember my Father with the radio up on his shoulder while watching the game on mute on the TV, Micheál's commentary was one of a kind.

completely on the side: what fantastic language gaeilge for an absolute nonspeaker is. but it makes sense, the roots are there...."Dé" = deus = god, "anam" = anima = soul... and if its not complicated enough, every county basically has its own dialect of it! fascinating.
