Lovely informative walk over my childhood playground in the 1970's. Used to have great fun climbing around the concrete beams under Dolphin Bridge.

Thank you, I'm a local lad, so know the old Dolphin Bridge well, I used to climb all over the underside of it too, there was a precarious crossing over the dyke you had to take care with too...walking over Dolphin Bridge in winter was taking a big chance...I used to sledge down one side....very dangerous, dont think it would be around today for health and saftey reasons

Hi - I lived on Havers Road so the bridge and that area was a 5 minute walk away. Moved to Mile Cross in 71 aged 10 so remember the line still being in place. Consider myself very lucky having such a great playground. Dolphin Bridge, the Water Woods next to it, the Railway Bridge that could be climbed to the top and of course Railway Woods. Used to walk to Drayton Station that was largely intact then. The School summer holidays seem to go on for ever then. The Road Salt 'Mountains' on Andersons Meadow was great fun climbing on as well. The Concrete part of Dolphin Bridge also has an area under the bridge that you could sit in and fish from as long as you didn't mind getting wet getting there. Actually would still be there. I could write a book on my adventures in that area. Used to go hunting for bits over Mile Cross Tip competing with the Gypsies. As you say some things rather dangerous but you learn quickly as a child and I would say those lessons help protect me from danger as an adult. All the best Ray
