Picking the right colors from the wide number of colors available in the M. Graham range can be daunting. In the sixteenth and final video in the series testing all the M. Graham colors, I show you several ways you can go about narrowing down what colors you want to buy from M. Graham.
In this final episode of M. Graham series (thank you for sticking all the way through!), we take a look at the most unique colors from M. Graham, as well as chat about how to narrow down the colors you want to buy.

I love M. Graham paints, and have the Viridian, Cobalt Teal, Dioxazine Purple, Nickle Azo Yellow, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Raw Umber, and Paynes Grey on my permanent palette. Viridian makes beautiful mixes and the Nickel Azo Yellow is indispensable for the same reason. For me, these paints are so pigmented that tinting strength hasn't been an issue so far (I paint mostly landscapes). Thank you for all of your hard work on this series, it's helped so much to see them put through their paces. Of course, now I need to buy my favorites! 😊

I love M. Graham!! I have most of their colours except for the cads. I agree with being aware with tinting strength. cause every time I paint I make sure to have a limited palette and I make a mixing chart for that palette. some colours don't turn out the way I want them to because the weak or strong tints. but I love that in watercolour learning about how to mix with this and that would give me this result! that is the fun for me. most of the time I have more fun with the mixing chart than the illustration itself.

I tried a pan set, schmincke maybe? I didn’t much care for them then I read about M Graham in a tube WC paint. Bought an Ultramarine blue, hansa yellow deep, naphthol red and Payne’s grey. It’s been over a year and, other than a very small amount of tinkering I still haven’t gotten around to properly experimenting and swatching them out. Big “sell everything and move to a new country” sort of got in the way. So far, I like the workability, the pan reactivation, the colours, although extremely limited in my palette, mix well. I keep bees so the addition of honey sounded novel. Downside, availability where we live now is very low, Daniel Smith is about all I can find in country. At least there are decent WCs available if I really needed them. Good acrylics and oils , not so much.

I love my M Graham paints. Because they are so easy to rewet, the high tinting strength ones can really get you. I’m looking at you dioxazine purple!! Thanks so much Oto. This has been one of my favorite brand breakdowns you have done.

This whole series was just awesome! I have a couple of tubes that I still want to collect. I so agree with the colors you recommend as special - I think they really are lovely and interesting! I've been following along and swatching the paints I had as you went along - it was like seeing them with fresh eyes. I'm looking forward to the Showdown returning too!

Thank you Oto for this amazing series. 💕 I think it is my favorite of the complete brand examinations. I love seeing these beautiful colors, but I learn a lot about color theory and organizing a palette from your videos as well. The upside of living in a high desert climate of heat and drought is that M. Graham paints set up nicely for me. I really love how pigmented these paints are and their PG60 is my all time favorite. I have a swatch of that blue that I look at every day like a talisman. It just makes me happy.🤓 Thanks for your considerable knowledge and dedication to bringing thoughtful content to KZbin. I look forward to the next series.😘

One of my favorite brands, except for their Mineral Violet (PV 16), which has inexplicably hardened like a stone, while the rest of the tubes remain fresh and usable.

I'm so glad you talked about tinting strength!! Not a lot of people do when they categorize colors, and I've been trying to find a different warm blue to use that's lower tinting strength than Phthalo Blue!! So annoying to mix on the pallette because it stains the pallete so badly, and it always overpowers the yellow (which is why I use the warm blue for) to the point where I never use it anymore :( it just takes up a spot on my pallete and I avoid it :( So now I can look more into Cerulean Blue, Magnanese Blue Hue, and Cobalt Teal for mixing pretty greens nicely! :) [plus I can paint a blue sky and lift clouds more easily!]

Hi Oto, that was such a great series! I like the suggestion of a rainbow palette a lot, but kind of miss the earth colours - I feel like I need the Burnt Umber in every palette I have. :D The unique colours look so nice and moody. If you had to add a yellow to that selection, what would it be? Thanks again for all your work with the series!

Thank you for a wanderful series with one of my favourate brands. It has definately firmed up on some of my ideas for palette selection. Still worring about the lemony yellows. Does anyone have any comments upon Hansa Y, Bismuth Y and cadium Y Light. Many thanks again,

awesome series, thanks so much! i had just bought a batch of m grahams to make the pallet that steve from the mind of water set up with m graham (plus a few extras) so this has been a really interesting series for me. :) i don't know what happened but it took forever for my mg paints to dry here in arizona (known for it's arid climate) & i had no problem with my sennelier paints at all - maybe mg uses more honey than senn? if anyone knows please reply.

thank you for all your work that is visible in your very informative videos. But I have one question. Do the MGraham pigments move fast? I heard from other users, that they move relatively fast on wet paper. would be interesting to know!! Thank you!!

How come Nickel Quinacridone Gold is low tinting when both its components (PO48, PY150) are medium and high tinting strength?

@@jennw6809 I can’t get my hands on any 😫. I’m waiting for a sale at Jackson’s or something. The problem with Jackson’s is that not everything is available at the same time so I have to make multiple orders and shipping is expensive 😭. And thanks for providing your opinion on the tinting strength of the paints. I find it very helpful when different people chime in with their thoughts; it really helps me understand pants better.

@@jennw6809 I didn’t miss the spring sale, but the shipping put me off. Since then, I contacted Jackson’s to understand what the differences between the different shipping services. I’m still mulling it in my head, though.

@@jennw6809 Oh, there is an Amazon, but there are very few watercolour paints on it. There is the odd Daniel Smith or Schmincke set - very expensive. The most common watercolour paints here are van Gogh’s palettes. There is one store - and one store only - that sells a very limited selection of van Gogh pans open stock. And there is another store that has an even more limited selection of Daler Rowney Aquafine tubes. Beyond that, there isn’t much… actually, there isn’t anything else worth mentioning. I’d love to return to the UK just for the sheer amount of art supply options they have there; particularly paper. The paper selection where I live is very limited, expensive, and expired 😂😭. I Iove the feel of paper, especially the handmade variety. If I ever return to the UK, I think I’ll setup a small Etsy shop and sell hand-stitched art journals 😍. I’d make them out of whatever paper the buyer wants. Needless to say, I’ll also ship a large chest to the UK and fill it with art supply goodies… sigh!

@@jennw6809 Thanks for supporting my sort-of-dream Etsy store. I’de love to make watercolour journals and paints, you know, like A. Gallo… but without the hand mulling, it’s just too much work 😂😂. Especially with phthalos, it takes hours to mull (no seriously, check it out on Arliebean’s channel). You seem to be IN LOVE with PY150. that’s actually very nice… and practical. I like that it is two toned, that is so useful. I’m in love with PY129. I was hoping to find it here, but alas, it was not available :-(. PY150, Nickel Quin Gold, PY129 and PO48 are four colours I’d like to try as substitutes for the umbers and the siennas. Well, assuming I can get my hands on PO48 before it runs out. PR206 is another pigment I want to try as a substitute for earthy reds. As for where I’m from, sorry, but I’d rather keep quiet about it at the moment. I’m really sorry for not sharing that here, privacy and all that on the internet. But you can actually find me very easily: just go past the Pillars of Hercules, but not in the direction of Atlantis, go the other way. Actually, since you’ll be coming from America, just drive up to the Pillars of Hercules, go past them and continue straight ahead. You should reach me at some point 😂😂

I bought a set and I love the M graham brand for strength. Dioxazine Purple and Sap Green were stated as Toxic and I was not keen on Sap Green as you can mix your own greens, dioxazine Purple is toxic so I was looking for an alternative. I am trying to stay Toxic free, so would be interested in the 12 favourite none toxic M Graham Colours you would choose ?
