Rajendra, just to simplify I am giving you examples of current scenario: Hypothesis: Lockdown helps to contain the spread of coronavirus. Q: So what makes this Statement a hypothesis? A: because you haven't proved yet anything about this statement and you will research about it, will give data about it, and try to test your own statement (i.e. hypothesis). So no matter if your hypothesis proves right or wrong. In both cases it will be considered as research. In case it proves right: lockdown actually helps to contain the spread of coronavirus In case it proves wrong: lockdown does not help to contain the spread of Coronavirus. So no matter hypothesis proves right or wrong you have done a new research. Q2. Now, what are variables: Variables can have quality or quantity value. In your above mentioned hypothesis, Lockdown and coronavirus are variables. Variables are of two types i.e. dependent and independent; Lockdown is independent variable and coronavirus is dependent variable. Why? And how? Because spread of coronavirus depends upon lockdown (according to your hypothesis). It's lockdown that effecting coronavirus and not coronavirus that effecting lockdown. So if we change the value of lockdown (in this case we extend it and make it more strict) then number of patients effected from coronavirus are likely to be less (according to our hypothesis). Am I clear to you?
