He actually wrote this one when he was 20, the one he wrote when he was 16 was Torna a Casa. What's interesting about this, is that this performance was at Sanremo. This was a year after they won Sanremo, of which they then went on to win Eurovision, which lead to their worldwide success. So it was a very emotional moment for all four of them.

Since you like this you should also check some of their other Italian songs but look for the versions with English subtitles: Torna a Casa (Come back home), Vent'anni (20 years old) - these 2 are ballads, or La Paura del Buio (Fear of the Dark) o Morirò da Re (I'll Die Like a King) - these 2 are more upbeat.

He was not 16 when he wrote this one. (That person was thinking of another of their popular ballads.) But they were all very young - about 21-23 at the time of this performance. I think it's one of their best! The song is inspired by a real person, Damiano's girlfriend at the time (now ex-girlfriend), and she was in the audience that night.
