This song is regarding a father's abuse, based on a true story of a friend of Damiano, whose name he didn't want to give out of respect...in fake name, "Coraline". the story ends in the most tragic way possible: Coraline dies after an abortion and will be figurally locked up in a "castle" where really no one will be able to harm her anymore, namely the monumental cemetery of Varano, Rome, called by the locals "the castle".

@@rifra973 Non lo sapevo neanche io, poi leggendo un commento di una persona del luogo informata sui fatti, ho voluto controllare sul perché un cimitero potesse essere chiamato così: effettivamente il cimitero del Verano ha davvero una cinta muraria monumentale con dei bastioni ed un quadriportico che lo fanno apparire come un castello. Probabilmente Damiano ha scritto questa "triste favola' (come De Andrè con la triste storia di Marinella) quando aveva davanti a sé fatti e luoghi tangibili.

Yes this song is breath taking because it's the true story of Coraline like it could be the story of Jeanine, Sindee, Gloria, Bettie and so many other girls. How come ? I am Italian and I live in Rome.... the song is kinda talking to me personally. For me the castle is patriarchy but you know...The interpretation is subjective. Art is more about the emotions some creation gives... and it is beautifully personal. This is what I mean. Big love there!

The only person who reacted and understood and clearly stated that it is an abuse of the father... Especially the reactions of men notice only the rock; the final part, where there is the explanation of everything, they almost skip it: "See you at the next video!" Finally a sensitive person who understands and is moved!

La mia paura è che a Damiano possa accadere la stessa cosa accaduta a Jon Bon Jovi e Ian Gillan, hanno tirato troppo da giovani e adesso sono afoni, Damiano sapendo il passato di tante voci perse si è munito di una voccal coach, speriamo che non perda la voce col tempo, già ne abbiamo avute tante di situazioni di afonismo ma negli anni 70-80 erano tutti autodidatta, lui no, si è premunito, God bless

The castle seems to me more an inside place where she withdraws in order not to feel anything because feeling for her is just feeling the pain of an abuse. Alternatively it may be a psychiatric asylum, or actually both. People say it’s a cemetery and it may be that too. Maneskin have said the ending is open to interpretation Ps. Btw I loved the way you took it personally, I’d subscribe to what you said about depression being equal to dying inside, a form of internalized violence that becomes very much self-violence. That’s why the “hero” of the song couldn’t save her
