The song describes in a fairytale way the real story of a girl who is abused both psychologically and sexually by her father and who, in the ending, suggests that the girl dies ... the final text of the song, the part of the castle, is a very strong metaphor .... a castle with high walls represents a place of isolation or even a prison, a mental institution .... but the part of the walls is the one that reveals the ending .... "Le han detto in città c’è un castello Con mura talmente potenti Che se ci vai a vivere dentro Non potrà colpirti più niente Non potrà colpirti più niente" "They told you there is a castle in the city With such powerful walls That if you go to live inside Nothing can hit you anymore Nothing can hit you anymore" In prison or in an institute there is no peace. "the castle" where you can find peace, serenity, a place of rest, a place where there is no longer suffering or pain ... think of the walls that delimit the cemeteries here in Italy, think of the peace and silence of those places .. the powerful walls where everyone finds peace..

So, the interpretation that is most widely accepted is this being a story about a girl who is abused and raped by her own father, who develops anxiety, depression, anorexia, agoraphobia and on top of that she also miscarries/have an abortion. The person telling the story tries to support her in any way they can just to see her smile once, but in the end, she can't escape this abusive relationship. It's still unclear if the castle refers to her own grave, an asylum, a women's shelter or just the prison of her own mind.

The song is about a true story but told as a tale because the band didn't want to talk about the real facts and left to the audience to interpret the story as they prefer. From the fan grapevine we knew Coraline (name of fantasy) was a young girl abused by her father who ultimately killed herself.

Your reaction was so on point, except for the last part but it's due to a mistranslation. The verse about the father actually means that "she has a father who is everything but a father to her" this can probably be interpreted to mean that her father does not treat her like a daughter but instead is the monster that was referenced at the beginning of the song.
@WinterJack153 жыл бұрын
Actually in the italian lyrics the verse says "ma un padre che di padre ha niente" which by roughly and litteral translation becomes "but a father that has nothing like a father" meaning that Coraline doesn't see her father as that for if she would look at her father she only would see the monster that her father is
@HamelinSong3 жыл бұрын
@@WinterJack15 If we want to be pedantic, it says "Ma un padre che di padre È niente" and considering they're from Rome and the way people from Lazio speak I reckon the best translation would be "She has a father that is nothing like a father"

I feel like the girl that "Coraline" talks about ended up commiting suicide, because in the final refrain ( where the rythm is not intense anymore... the last lines ), the song talks about a castle that will protect her, and nothing will hurt her anymore. Suicide is probably the "cure" this text is about. It's like if this girl suffered so much that suicide was an happy ending for her, but not for his lover. The tones and the music in general become more and more intense as it goes on. The voice that is talking is the voice of the lover with a broken heart.

@Tepes19803 жыл бұрын
Every English speaking reactor uses this translation, but it actually has a lot of errors. Many of them are minor, but there's one at the end of the song that basically doesn't allow the listener to understand a key part of the story. When near the end the translated text says "who is a father of nothing" should have actually been translated to something like "who is nothing like a father". This should, in the end, clarify what was actually Coraline's main problem.

MEANING OF “CORALINE” AS TOLD BY DAMIANO ( the singer) It’s our fairy tale, the story of a little girl who can’t find her place in the world because she’s too pure and fragile. It tells, through a sweet melody, a journey that gradually becomes more and more distressing, that seems hopeless. [...] “Coraline” needs a clarification: it’s not the story of the knight saving the damsel in distress. The story ends badly, there is no happily ever after. It’s something real, it’s the withering of this flower, of this girl, and the knight is helpless and powerless in the face of what is happening. As for the name Coraline, it’s not inspired by the cartoon, by the film. The choice of the name is purely musical, phonetic. The story is a real story, one I will not talk about right now, turned into a fairy tale, and everyone can interpret it as they wish.

This song just give me shivers. I'm italian, so in understand the words, but my favorite part is the guitar. It's so fucking emotional, like it's crying out of pain. And the last part? The castel, is so relatable to most of the people, even if in different ways. Like, for me is when you're so scared to leave a place and try to feel better, that you end giving up, and remaing in that condition anyways.
@childofathena_3 жыл бұрын
Another thing: i feel like this song is about someone that has depression. They're in a horrible condition, but they has someone (in this case the one who's singing) that cares about them. But, they doesn't have the courage to try to rise up, and try to be happy again. So they remain in that mental prison and condition, and no one can actually help. In the end, the castle is a metaphor of death. They feel like the only way they can find peace is by killing themselves, and that's what happens to them. Just a personal interpretation, even if i don't have a depression problem, but i feel like it's relatable to people who suffer from this.

As for this song, in an interview they say that the song is inspired by a true story but they never talk about it. In another interview with Damiano's mother, she says that Coraline is actually a representation of the band: Victoria with her anxiety and panic attacks, Damiano with the eating disorder he suffered from, Thomas and his unability to sleep and Ethan and his anxiety from crowds, etc. Not sure how much of it is true but either way, it's a beautifil song. And @BradSteele, you should listen to Torna a Casa as well. Another incredible balad

In the end coralline dies , she kills her self as she has found a place with Giant walls where nobody can hit her anymore ( the cemetery ) ,so it’s not a happy ending story .

Frontman Damiano's girlfriend Giorgia is an influencer&activist and she is really open about her Endometriosis which causes extreme body pain..she said that sometimes she isn't able to do easy daily tasks because of it. And she also talked about since endometriosis is pretty hard to diagnose people didn't believe her for years and assumed she was lying about her pain. She has a Caroline tattoo that has been done after the song and Damiano said the song is about someone he knows. She also talked about a abortion she had years ago with an old partner.After reading this comment please go back to reading the lyrics. I swear you'll see what I'm pointing at. Btw she recently got a surgery for it 😏

about the pronounciation: the å is pronounced like the o in 'dog' but it's a bit longer. the intonation is on the å

I suggest you to watch “torna a casa “ , but first read the translation . about coralline , the translation is not perfect , to literal , dimmi le tue verità should have been translated with “ tell me your truths “ , the fruit of your womb in English doesn’t make much sense , the result of your womb mains would have been more understandable . Meaning having a miscarriage or an abortion

Coraline was sexually abused by her father.....and the "Castle" where nobody can hurt her anymore, is actually her grave: she killed herself. Damiano wrote this song for a friend of his, who committed suicide.

Her father doesn't help her, she is what is keeping her caged. He sings that her father is father of nothing. He is a monster holding her back, putting landmines in her way. The "fruit of her womb" that she loses might be the product of his incestuous rape. The castle with the strong walls at the very end is very debated. Some people think it is a mental asylum, while others think it is her tomb. I'm only aware that the band has confirmed that it is nothing positive at all. She is still trapped but at least free from her father and won't be tormented anymore.
