It's cool that 'woman' in Maori Language is 'wahine'. In my language (Selayarese [one of languages from South Sulawesi, Indonesia]), we say 'bahine'.

Some similarities with Indonesia/Malay: Taringa - Telinga Ika - Ikan Rua - Dua Rima - Lima You guys are basically our distant cousins 🥺 Austronesian 🤝 Polynesian

I know you commented on this 2 months ago, but by the way, Polynesians are Austronesians. The way Polynesians formed is that Austronesians moved down into what is now Papua New Guinea and southern Indonesia. Some genetic mixing occurred, similar to how the Malagasy are a mix of Bantu African and Austronesian. Austronesians who stayed and continued to mix with Papuan peoples eventually formed the Melanesians, while those who went east became the Polynesians.

Berarti jauh banget sebelum ada multikulturalisme bangsa Austronesia, bahkan dengan budaya Tingkok-India. Budaya kita yang paling asli dan otentik itu lebih dekat dengan bangsa Polynesia ya. Secara kan moyang bangsa Asia Tenggara dan orang2 Oseania datang dari pulau Formosa (sekarang Taiwan)

Yoi, dan karena datangnya pengaruh dri luar kyak India, China, Arab, Belanda, budaya itu udah hilang. Tapi beberapa etnis masih melestarikannya kya Dayak, Mentawai, dll. Bangsa Austronesia itu identik dengan bulu burung dan tattoo serta lautan, dan maka keahlian mereka yaitu Navigasi, peninggalan yg msih bertahan smpe sekarang contohnya sbuah gambar di goa2, punden berundak, dan kapal pinisi dri sulawesi.

A lot of those vocab items for animals and food seem to be English loan words adapted to Maori phonology

Yes, some of those foods and animals weren't in NZ before colonisation so they borrowed the English words for them

@@shaungordon9737yeah exactly! And Māori loaned words to english for things that did not exist in Pākehā world before contact, like mana and tapu, but English still doesn’t know what those mean anyway😂

Hawaiian & japanese aren't related at all, they came from different language families. However hawaiian & maori are related, since both are austronesian languages.

I love the Maori language. It has a lot of vowels and syllables but the words and sentences are not that long compared to other very vowel-heavy languages even though the consonant inventory is so limited.

Because Maoris are the original inhabitants of New Zealand....Many European people were placed there to change the demographics....But Maori resisted to disappear

@@cheerful_crop_circle Russian is Slavic and Indo-European to the hell, obviously it has nothing to do with either Japanese or Turkish. The relation between Japanese and Turkish, based on the "Altaic" theory is very uncertain and (rather for a good reason) rejected by most scholars, since there is not enough proof for it
