It is not that much different between the two. Not enough to complain about and I have owned both and carried both. I still have the 45 Shield and it is my EDC. With any good in the waistband holster the term "too heavy" should not apply unless you are a puss. Besides I have not seen a post about a handgun yet that doesn't have someone complaining about something.

I own a Glock 22 and the M&P Shield .45. I thought that the .45 would have way more recoil than the .40 but I was wrong. I find that the recoil on the Shield is "pleasant" compared to the strong "snap" of the .40 on my Glock. Your reviews on guns are more invaluable than I think you realize. You provide such a great break down of a firearm that it makes things easier when going to purchase one. God bless from Ohio!

40 s&w produces more pressure than a 45 or 9mm. Equals more snap

Its more accurate than my 21 and a TON more concealable than my 30S. I'm not a Glock hater. They're damn reliable and I can't say I ever had a problem with mine in all those years of duty carry. I just think there are better weapons out there and the Shield is one of em IMO. I only carried a Glockenspiel because its all my agency approved for semi-auto

It's a close-up, self defense weapon, meant to be used within about 10 yards, max, so it's really not an issue. If you take a shot at somebody 80 yards away, it's pretty hard to claim self defense, anyway.

Just bought one today and put about 100 rounds through it, will put more through it tomorrow, but I am really loving this little gun. Despite its smaller size, I can get a really good, strong grip on it. Recoil is the tiniest bit snappy, but not a problem for me. Really loving it.
@BagpipekilR8 ай бұрын
The shield 45 is a close combat, single stack, narrow frame, belt carry pistol no doubt. I appendix carry mine IWB and even with minimal clothing this thing doesn't print at all. The narrow grip is super comfy, and action is dead reliable. Recoil is very easy to deal with, and the hole a hollow plus p round makes at 10 yards is absolutely incredible. Hands down my favorite ccw, thank you, SW!! And thank you hickok45 🇺🇸 God bless!

@aviatortrucker61984 жыл бұрын
I purchased one the other day it is one of the most accurate small compacts I have ever shot. I love this gun except for one simple problem. The M&P 45 Shield IS NOT an ambidextrous fire arm. Unlike the full size M&P 45, that comes with the tool built into the hand grip and allows you to switch the magazine release from right hand to left handed this one does not allow it because the shape of the magazine release button cutout is different on both sides of the hand grip. One more thing to note the magazines are not ambidextrous either because they only have the notch cut out for the right handed magazine release catch. Ambidextrous magazines have two little notched squares on both sides of the magazine shaft. So yet again I struggle to either learn to shoot weak handed or to suffer the handicap of slow reloading of a left-handed shooter using a right handed firearm. This is probably why some of the mod 2 models that do have an external thumb safety release only have it on the left side of the gun. This is for right handers to release the safety with their their right thumb. There’s no provision like the 1911 that has a thumb safety on both sides of the pistol. I’ve had to deal with this in the military with the M-16 or AR-15 which is strictly a right handed functioning rifle. Otherwise, it is a really great self defense gun to own.

Having met Goldblum when he was filming a movie here in Beaufort, SC I can tell you his attitude about the second amendment ain't the same as ours. There are some good folks who make movies like Eastwood, Willis, Ice Tea and Kurt Russell and there are still more that are not outspoken for obvious reasons. I have the 9mm Shield and I love it. I installed the belt-clip and a Pachmeyer slip-on grip and called it a day. It is hands down my favorite urban EDC piece. I was also intrigued by the 45 version when a friend told me they were available, but since I already have a nice Bersa UC45 which is more solid and loads the same number of rounds, I'm unlikely to go after one any time soon. I'll stick with my Bersa. It's always served me well and was my first handgun, to boot. On that note, I was wondering if maybe YOU, Mr. Hickok45, would actually consider doing a demo on a Bersa UC45 sometime? It's something I've been meaning to ask you for awhile. These truly do have a cult following and are quite reliable and effective carry pieces with borrowed specs from several very successful designs. The gun and caliber are slightly heavy and bulky for year-round EDC in my opinion, but for cool or cold weather when you have a little extra clothing on (and so do bad guys!), it does nicely.

This is a great firearm. I bought mine when they first came out; and it has been my EDC gun ever since. I upgraded mine with Trijicon HD's, with the yellow front sight; and keep it loaded with Underwood's Extreme Defender ammo. I carry appendix, in a Dale Fricke, Archangel holster; or a Vedder Light Tuck, when I have to tuck in my shirt. To date, I have experienced zero malfunctions; and the gun is as accurate as I am. Living in Texas, and carrying close to the body; I can attest to the corrosion resistance of the slide's finish, as well as the positive traction provided by the grip texturing. It should be noted that an undershirt is advisable, when wearing close to the body; because the grip texture will irritate you when the gun is in direct contact with the skin for a prolonged period.

I think the real person we should thank ( besides of hickok45 of course) is federal ammunitions. thank you Federal for your support in the making of these videos and the education that they bring. god bless America and the 2a.

Fun to sit back and watch! Woods walk, BS session. Korean 3/5th Marines, recipient of a Mosin Nagant round lower back. Packs a real wallop.

I honestly can't understand why anyone would have a problem with the recoil of .45 acp. I have shot the hottest ammo I can find and it is still very easy to control, so I wouldn't shy away from the caliber based on recoil. I shoot a 10mm with hot ammo all the time and that has some recoil, but that isn't tough either. Now, if you are thinking of .44 magnum, then yea recoil can be an issue for some, but most will be able to handle it as well.

Hey Hickok45, have you ever tried using the Hogue HandALL grip sleeves on any of the Shield models? I have huge hands like you - I can palm a basketball with ease - and when I bought my .45 Shield, the grip was something that I thought I could get used to as far as the thinness of it, but I was wrong. Over time, I adapted, but when I came across a friend who posted a picture of his new Shield, he had the HandALL grip sleeve on his, and it sparked my curiosity. I asked him about it, and he said they're only $10 bucks, and they come in black, FDE, ODG, Coyote Tan, and other colors of the rainbow - incl. robin egg blue, purple, and pink for the ladies... I bought the FDE one and put it on my 45 Shield. Ever since I got them I've been incredibly happy with my Shield and how it fits my hand now. You really should try the Hogue HandAll grip sleeve - they're cheaper than the Talon grips, and they don't wear out like the adhesive-applied Talon grips do! They make these grip sleeves for all manner of slim, single-stack pistols, and even for double stack pistols by almost every gun manufacturer out there... You really should give them a try!

All the Shield's are awesome. So is the M&P .380. But my favorite carry will always be the M&P 40C. Ya just can't go wrong with this gun. Good Day!

6yrs later lol. Still carrying my 40c. It gets split with my shield Plus. Love em both. Have a 9mm and 357sig barrel for the 40c too. I wouldn't call my shield snappy, but it feels that way when shot back to back with the 40c when shooting 9! Cheers!

I had a similar experience with the slide locking back, just a few times. But in my instance I was shooting with my left hand and could not have been touching the slide stop. Weird.

I was going through u tube and stopped at Hickok 45 and was watching his videos, that's when I bought my Glock 19 and my Smith and Wesson sheld 9. Both guns are right on target. I only had one malfunction and that was when I shot one handed and a limp wrist at that . I was to relaxed.

The thing about the .45 caliber round is is moves slower than other calibers. You can actually see it travel to the target sometimes. But it also has so much power behind it. Its like a locomotive. It moves slow but it has so much force behind it.
