Really happy that Mr Ng found his another half after his first wife pass away. I believe that love is equal, no matter at what age, gender, race and religon. Read so many comments.. But this reveals lots of ignorance here. 1. Chinese who migrated to Canada 70-100 over years ago spoke their dialects. This was before the CCP in China was firmly established. Mandarin had not yet become the official language. Cantonese was a dominant language used amongst the Chinese immigrants in all parts of the world, along with Hokkien, Teochew etc. So Sybil speaking Cantonese and English as a former Canadian citizen makes perfect sense. 2. For Singapore, it was similar. Teochew and English, because back in his era Mandarin was also not the main 2nd language. English and Malayu were more common. Singapore is only 58 yrs old in 2023. Mr Ng received his education mostly before the nation's independence. So Mr Ng Kok Song speaks English and Teochew well.

The moment she spoke Cantonese, I felt a sense of familiarity, although I can only speak Hokkien. Her English sounds very foreign to me. I hope she can speak more Cantonese. Her face is Chinese but her English turns me off.

I popped by Ms Sybil’s Instagram and was utterly impressed by her Chinese calligraphy works. In fact, she wrote classic Chinese poems that are very chim. I can understand your opinion abt her English accent. But, I’ve come to accept that a variety of English accents exist in Singapore. Just look at the three presidential candidates, three different accents! Also, I’ve realised that Singaporeans of different generations speak in different English accents too. That’s just part of our Spore society and I embrace it 🫶

Very interesting couple. They are an enviable item. Hope they ignore the mean comments posted here, some of which borders on personal attacks. It just shows how shallow and immature we are, and the lack of most basic respect for others. Perhaps there is something wrong with our upbringing. I also hope the police arrest the cyclist in red T shirt who haressed NKS when he was doing his walkabout. You don’t have to like him, but you have no right to haress him.

嗨！我是个80后。其实在新加坡，中文是在70年代末左右才被政府实行普及化的。同时为了提倡中文，方言歌曲被禁止在电台等播放(直到近年才被允许了)。 所以生长在那之前的华人比较善于方言+英文 (若他们念英校) 或方言+中文(若他们念华校)。 其实在实施中文普及化并减弱方言使用的结果就是从80后开始, 会方言的新加坡人已”濒临绝种”了。🤣
