A long time ago I served in the Navy. I played lead guitar in a little band that we had aboard ship. We had been on deployment for six months...we were finally headed home. The Captain allowed the crew to have a "steel beach" picnic on the flight deck, basically hot dogs/burgers, etc. My little band was the entertainment. Somewhere I have a video of one of my fondest memories of my time at sea: We've been gone from home for so long. We are all worn out after a long deployment. The band is playing this song. As the distant horizon rises and falls as the ship rocks on the ocean swells, I look out at the faces of the ship's crew...my shipmates...and see the same heartfelt LONGING for home on every face. It was...beautiful.

Back when this song came out MTV had a daily show with the top 10 most requested, basically just like TRL in the 90's. Home Sweet Home was #1 for so long that MTV finally decided it was ineligible for the list and retired it. You guys have now got to watch the official video. It captures the very feel of being at a rock concert while a Ballad played during the 80`s. When this song was released I was in Jr High School and MTV was all about music back then. They use to have the top 10 videos of the day, and this was the longest running number 1 video, I think it still holds today. It must have lasted for months. I knew if I went straight home without screwing off along the way I'd make it to see the number 1, Home Sweet Home. One day I ran to the nearest store to purchase the Hit Parader Magazine because the lyrics were in that months issue, I had to make sure I was singing the proper lyrics. I still made it hoe that day to watch the video as well. Them were great days to be alive!

Mötley Crüe is an American heavy metal band formed in Hollywood, California in 1981.The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee and guitarist/lead vocalist Greg Leon. After some time, Leon was replaced by guitarist Mick Mars and lead vocalist Vince Neil respectively. Mötley Crüe has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. They have also achieved seven platinum or multi-platinum certifications, nine Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart (including 1989's Dr. Feelgood, which is Mötley Crüe's only album to reach number one), twenty-two Top 40 mainstream rock hits, and six Top 20 pop singles. The band was known for being quite popular with the ladies, and Tommy Lee even had his infamous sex-tape released showing him and his wife at the time Pamela Anderson enjoying time together. Nikki has written books about life as rock stars standing toe to toe with Ozzy doing booze and drugs. Nikki even died a few times overdosing. Lyrics below: You know I'm a dreamer But my heart's of gold I had to run away high So I wouldn't come home low Just when things went right It doesn't mean they were always wrong Just take this song And you'll never feel left all alone Take me to your heart Feel me in your bones Just one more night And I'm coming off this long and winding road I'm on my way I'm on my way Home sweet home Tonight, tonight I'm on my way I'm on my way Home sweet home You know that I've seen Too many romantic dreams Up in lights, falling off the silver screen My heart's like an open book For the whole world to read Sometime nothing keeps me together at the seams I'm on my way I'm on my way Home sweet home Tonight, tonight I'm on my way Just set me free Home sweet home Home sweet home Home sweet home Home sweet home I'm on my way I'm on my way Home sweet home Yeah, I'm on my way Just set me free Home sweet home

Motley Crue made a 'power ballad' in 1985 before it became the 'hit single' formulae to sell records in the 80's... Dokken also recorded the power ballad 'Alone again' in 1984. Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee played piano on the track... that record 'Theater of pain' was done after the car accident Crue singer Vince Neil was involved in that killed Hanoi Rocks' drummer Nicholas 'Razzle' Dingley... Neil served a short jail sentence before returning to record the album, but was apparently traumatized for life...
