The original 5 is my wheelhouse, Loved little Pete Willis, that sound! They were a straight up guitar rock band out of England, somewhere they started worrying bout chics showing up ( or lack there of) to their shows, i personally stopped listening after High & Dry, no disrespect to Phil Collens, Vivian Campbell, (saw Vivian in his first job anyway. This entire album. Not one bad thing about it. Been listening to it since the day it was released. Still the best album they ever did in my opinion. The end got you because on the album the transition to the next song is seamless.

Def Leppard has some of the best ballads in the business. "Love Bites", "Two Steps Behind", "Miss you in a heartbeat" and many others. As a band, they perfected the juxtaposition of having hard rocking anthems and beautiful ballads.

I'm pretty sure when Def Leppard started, there was nobody in the band that was older than 16yrs. The early years of Def Leppard are the harder rock version. High and Dry is one of their good ones.

They were 16 when the original band started rehearsing in 1977... tho they played their first gig in 1978. It was Joe Elliott (vocals), Rick Savage (bass), Pete Willis & Steve Clark (guitars) & Tony Kenning (drums) ... Kenning quit in '78 before their demo was recorded w/ drummer Frank Noon. Rick Allen (drums) was 15 when he joined in 1979 - his parents had to sign the record contract w/ him cos he was underage...😂

On Through the Night (1980) and High and Dry (1981) were primers for what was to come in 1983. This was their first real big hit song. Then came Pyromania in 1983, one of the best hard rock albums of all time.

I grew up with Def Leopard and I've loved them since the beginning. But what really gets my respect is that they kept and worked with their drummer, who was young and dumb at the time and got into an accident and lost one of his arms. How many big time bands have an one armed drummer? Great Respect!!!

I think this is their best song. period. That sound in the ending is the beginning of the next song on the album, it's a full instrumental called switch 625. You should check it out, it's kick ass. Infact the entire the entire album is kick ass. The album is called high n dry

I'm going to post this again. In 1980 I went to the Georgia Jam at Road Atlanta. Def Leppard was the opening band and they were all teenagers. Talk about a n awesome group, not long after their first album came out. The other bands that day were Scorpion, Pat Travers Band, Molly Hatchet,Ted Nugent, good thing it was outdoors for they were all loud, very loud, Power Rock man , 😃🥃🤪 🎸📢😵. Rock and Roll I was twenty one then and that's one day I can never forget. It was July fourth and the temperature was 105 degrees very hot 🥵, but never regretted it. The cost was $12.00, that seems like a lot back then , just a drop in a bucket now . Keep on rocking brothers and sisters ✌️ and 🤘 Brother Gary

Those transitions were pretty standard for an 80's power ballad. That cool bass that was playing at the end was the lead-in to the next song on the album.

Saw them live the first time they came to US, at an old converted bingo hall in Dallas, can't remember who they opened for, but they were great and young! Saw them 2 more times when they were HUGE and they always put on a show!

Def Leppard in 1981, when they had both original guitarists and the drummer had two arms. On the album this song fades into a killer instrumental track called Switch 625. This album also has one of their most underrated songs, Let It Go.

My favorite Def Leppard tune. First time I seen these guys was in 1987 on their Hysteria Tour (watch video Pour Some Sugar On Me, that concert}. Its when they had drums in center n all 4 sides open, plus it rotated. Tesla was opening band...KILLER MEMORIES
