Thing with carboot sales is, theres no upper limit on prices, so if some one is asking 50 quid on a 30 quid item, thats not scamming, thats selling, if your willing to pay that money then thats it, its not scamming.

Jay slater was not in the Masca ravine he was in the Juan Lopez ravine the next one along the coast. The Juan Lopez ravine is total different there is no marked path through the ravine and even though you can walk through it is much harder and you need to be at a high level of experience hence not many people do that one also there is no sign post in the ravine causing most people to only walk in a arranged guided walk by an experienced person who knows the way through.
