I think this may be one of the first videos I’ve seen you in…nice to put a face to the voice. Great score on the $125- radio.

Really enjoyed your video, and I came away with several new ideas. Thank you! You're a brave man to do POTA without AGC :)

Hey Thomas, you’re lucky that you have a backup battery in your pack should your car run out of power. Ha!Ha! Another great video -thanks for taking us there. I received an alert today, 5 Feb, that you were on 20 meter. I tried to hear you but you were a 229 on my end here in CA. Maybe next time. 👍

Great video. I had a Ten Tec R4020 / YouKits. What a great little radio. "Did you say your friend gave you those Traveler Light Paddles? Oh My, what a great friend. Great paddles. The KX2 and KX3, I use Pico Palm Paddles but any other radio I use the Traveler Light Paddles. They are great. Barry, KU3X

I've always wanted one of these, but they are tough to find. They look really similar to the Youkits HB-1B which is also hard to find; is it the same radio? A great alternative is the Venus SW-3B which goes for $188 new and includes a third band, 30m.

Oh yes! I have the SW-3B too! Here's how I pack it these days: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYmkmaabfdmNqM0si=3eGO_pM3tFIwGZfq

The WebSDR QRM avoidance technique is a neat trick. It can be rather difficult to pull off hunting POTA on CW. The challenge is in the latency of the WebSDR, one or two seconds is a long turnaround time, especially if the target is working stations quickly. Also hearing your own signal coming back from the remote SDR at the same time as you are sending is really confusing. I’ve successfully hunted a couple of stations this way, but I wouldn’t make a habit out of it. You can “measure” the latency by making sure your computer clock is sync’d then simply tune WWV/H and note how many seconds late the top of the minute tone appears.

I just picked up a Ten-Tec made MFJ 9200 with all the band modules....tested in the shack and am amazed by how clean it sounds. Yes, it takes 30 seconds to change bands...but what's the hurry? Great content, as always, Thomas. 72 de AI4TB

Just a month ago, your videos were totally inaccessible to me because my understanding of CW was in its infancy. When I was curious about gear, your English words only kind of came together to form sentences I understood. "If you're new here, I like to do real time, real life, amateur field activation videos." Those words were almost stressful whenever I inadvertently clicked into one of your videos. Now that I'm more serious about CW and have haphazarded a few contacts, your channel has quickly become a favorite. I finally can wrap my head around what you're saying about the gear, and the activations are amazing listening practice. Seeing everything happening in your real time format is really strengthening one of my main draws to ham radio in the first place, SOTA/POTA. But above all I'm grateful for all of the work that you put into promotion of various facets of shortwave radio, and for the unrelenting and warm support and simple wisdom you consistently reiterate for CW newbies. I keep trying to hunt you but so far I haven't heard anything. I'll get you in the log yet! Merci and 73 (until I can get a QRP rig running!)

I tried using that speaker with my KX3 because as everyone knows the big drawback is the super low level audio that comes out of the speaker. I didn’t like it because it made everyone sound “digitally” or robotic sounding.

I enjoyed your POTA video, very. I wonder which camera you have been using? A good quality video! I also love my "Traveller key" - I have trained years back to queeze letters manipulating the key. You save a lot of fingers movements getting a more calm CW writing. Go for it 😊 ! I often using my SW-3B. It looks like your ten-ten. Anyways thanks again, maybe CU on the bands....de OZ1FKU, Ole
