M109R Greasing Your Drive Shaft

This is a known problem that they drive shafts come with minimal amounts of grease in the earlier years. It is good to check this and service it every now and then. You will only need wheel bearing grease, snap ring plyers and a new dust seal. The part number is below.

To remove the dust seal, drill 2, 2mm holes opposite each other, use 2 self tapping screws in the 2 holes. Either screw in together, or use a pair of pliers to lever out.

Great idea brother! I usually just take a pic and hammer through and pry but decided to do a screwdriver this time. Lol. Definitely a lot harder

Thanks! There isn’t suggested maintenance on this. The earlier models have been known to have them come dry from the factory so many checked. The bike we shot the video was my wife’s and I hadn’t checked it in 10 years and probably 60k miles. It was still lubricated so I would say if you check and lube it one time you are probably good to go.

Is it okay to use Honda Molly assembly paste on those gears/splines under the dust cap

Honestly, I am not sure. It is a sealed area but not sure if the Molly would become more liquid like from the heat. i would worry that it wouldn’t help much after a certain amount of heat. I would use wheel bearing grease since it isn’t expensive.

Nooooo don't do it I used it its an abrasive it rusted out my coupler broke down on highway when I took apart no.spines left nothing but rust and im one that's big on maintenance don't do it use bearing grease

How hard is this to do with the bike all together?

You need to remove the rear wheel and then you can pull the final drive off the bike. You can't do it on the bike.
