To add about the other Motovloggers: Something I've always applauded the big KZbinrs for in this space is being able to make a motovlog interesting every time (Blockhead, HerTwoWheels, ShadeTree, Million Dollar Bogan, etc). I'm boring so my motovlogs are a dime a dozen, lol. Making motovlogs interesting in itself is an art and skill that I felt like I didn't have a long time ago. The bike however is interesting. 😀

Couple of things: I owned a '14 Night Rod for almost five years and put nearly 44,000 miles on it. As you mentioned, these bikes have a slipper clutch that is really helpful when riding hard in curvy situations. Makes the bike so much smoother in transitions in the apex or downhill grades. Also I discovered that if I put five quarts of oil, even with filter change, it would puke out a little bit. I thought I had an oil leak, but I did not. Four and a half quarts will put you right where you need to be. Longest I ever rode between fill ups was 155 miles. I was on fumes and in rural New Mexico. The stock rear shocks are shit. My first long road trip from Wyoming to California and back destroyed them. I put a set of Legend "Revo" shocks on and that was the best upgrade I made. My bike came with Michelin Scorchers. I got about 6,000 miles out of the rear. I switched to Michelin Commanders hoping for a little better mileage. Those tires felt about the same as the Scorchers, (maybe a little better in the wet) but I only got a little over a thousand more miles on the rear. Front would go 10,000. My beloved Night Rod is gone now due to a momentary lapse in my concentration and a stubborn steel highway fence post at fifty mph. Five surgeries later and now I'm on a Road King, but I'm still riding. Good video. Yes, you do ramble a bit... Keep up the good work and take care of that Muscle.

I'll bet the oil is coming from the rear valve cover breather hose. The hose is either loose at the valve cover, or the hose is split along its length. Simple fix, and HD still has them in stock. While you're in there, check the front breather pipe O-ring. It too can generate some oil seep. There's also a bunch of postings on maintaining the air/oil separator in the airbox. Worth a look.

Adjusting the fuel settings with a tuner will take most of that crackle out of the exhaust under decel. Its caused by the engine leaning out when you roll off the throttle, due to aftermarket exhaust. Only other culprit could be an exhaust leak at where the slip-ons are connected. If the installer didn't seal them up real good with a high-heat sealer or exhaust tape, they will leak and cause the popping.
@BrandonBicasso3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely the slip-ons. Probably won't get it tuned unless there's a ground breaking performance benefit. I like it the way it is tbh.

You HAVE to use the high rpms but its sooo hard for any muscle cruiser to compare. From what I can find out, the vrod is faster, but the r is sooo gorgeous! Check that breather index the airbox. It can crack and get blow-by and leak down to look like a valve cover gasket issue. Or its a valve cover gasket issue. ALWAYS check your oil bro. They aren't kidding when they say "every time you fuel up. Also, it never hurts to have some extra fuses and a few relays. When you got the V-Rod, it reminded me of how often I have been thinking about another bike but can't figure out what I want. I cannot compare you to Shadetree, Blockhead, Queensit, or Tall because they all have their niche, as do you but yours is more precise. Plus, a lot of the Tubers you mentioned also do builds so it is not like they motovogging every day. I say take your time. The bikes bad ass , you have something that's no longer made . Who knows the price can go up years later . Before you mess with that engine if you know Harley mechanics ask them if they'd be interested in some side work . Might wanna tell the company you bought the bike from about it . I look at the vrod differently , it's the real performance Harley . I think I can see why them bikes aren't always seen on long road stretches . Its more of a cruise look good or haul ass bike. Add bags and a wind screen and it can all be done but still the frame build isn't the best for comfort on that long ride . I've done it before on my breakout and I've always thought being short is a good thing for them bikes or rockets . That bikes wow

I had the front brake one replaced with an updated part number and that fixed the issue. But the clutch cover still has to be removed and reset to stop leaking about every 6 months. Oh, and that DOT 4 fluid EATS up the paint.

Enjoyed the video dude, hello from Scotland 🏴 I’ve been tempted by the M109R, I went with the lighter Victory Octane last year, loving it, same meat to the vrod, just different sauce. Keep the videos going, it’s all good. 💪 waiting to see what the Kawasaki Eliminator H2 and HD Custom 1250 are like. New Rocket 3 is a beast too 8) ride safe, Jon

Those roads are soooo nice looking. Ha judge you for dodgey overtakes.....I don't think I can, it'd be Veeeeery hypocritical 😂 I'm not mad on hydraulic clutches. And 50% of my bikes have it, it's fine but I prefer the feel of a cable. Yeah the v&h pipes sound meaty over KZbin. I like. I feel you on the videos, I'm like usually two weeks behind my actual life, I'd like to be up to date. But it's not easy to do that. Buuuut you're awesome as are your videos. Motovlogging doesn't needs to be as produced. It's just great to get an update :) But I get what you mean. I have the same issue. But I think I might just suck so it is what it is 😂 Gears and gasoline did a great video called "cars won't make you happy" that covered a lot about why they buy the cars they do etc. Well worth a watch. Vrods are cool. I love them 😍 A lot of people do understand what goes in, plenty don't but lots of us do :) Bah. I will make it to the end 😂 I always do :) I did enjoy it :) Gracias for making it!

Great video! I also got a vrod from auction, it's being shipped to me, what I noticed I have a key, but I don't have a key fob, can you explain me can I start the bike without the key fob? If not, can I reprogram it? I live overseas, so we don't have HD dealerships around, I am really worried for that. If somebody can explain me that system, I would greatly appreciate it
@BrandonBicasso3 жыл бұрын
What year is the bike? It will have an alarm on it that will have to be disarmed. Check out www.1130cc.com/. I'm honestly not sure if it can be started without the fob if the alarm is activated unless you know the pin code that's on it for deactivation. Depending on the year.
@KevinButler8163 жыл бұрын
Hello if your bike has the security system you can start it by using a pin number. If the pin number is not included in the paperwork contact a dealer if your bike has security and they can take care of you

@@KevinButler816 hello, thank you for your reply, I know for sure I have a physical key, and no key fob, as to the pin code, I will have to look for it, but I doubt I can find it somewhere, since I bought the bike from the auction. As to the HD dealership, I doubt they would be willing to help me, since I live on the other side of the globe,.but being a part of harley rides family, I am sure, I will figure it out somehow, with the help of people like you guys. Thank you for responding

@@Сергей-с7х2в hey so if your bike has the alarm system it will have the fob but since it doesn't all the key does is lock the ignition switch so to speak preventing anyone one from turning on the accessories or starting the bike. And All the key fob does with the alarm system is act as a proximity key that only allows the bike to start and stay running when the keys close buy like modern-day push start cars. I would look into having a HD alarm system installed there not cheap but worth it, as well as a aftermarket GPS. As that will make it a lot more likely the bike won't be started and driven off without you.

My buddy just got himself a V-rod muscle. I'm too short to ride it, but damn it sounds and looks nice. The last bike I sat on that my ass decided I needed to ride was the Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero. Never before have I wanted a bagger so bad.
@BrandonBicasso3 жыл бұрын
Too short to ride it? Interesting. Is it because of the foot position? The Muscle sits pretty low as is especially compared to a Vaquero. Then again, I've never sat on a Vaquero. I'm 5'10"
@christopher73103 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonBicasso yeah, it's the foot control placement. It leaves my legs locked completely straight. I'm only 5'4" with a 28" inseam, so the the best my legs can do is a forward-mid control. I did find a damn gorgeous night rod with mid controls, but was unable to test ride it before it sold.

I have a 2014 night rod, and it had an oil leak, 6 weeks after purchase, turned out to be one of the hoses in the or around the airbox was pinched. I no longer go to the Harley dealer I bought the bike at, because the young tack then pinched the exhaust holes causing the fuel cell to swell up and then the belt rubbed a hole in the fuel cell costing me 1500 dollars they would not fix it for free, even though I'm financing it from them, I took it to another Harley dealer who knew what he was doing, and because of covet it took 4 1/2 months to get the parts in, So beware of this problem, I think the night rod is the best looking bike Harley makes. Peace brother..

Pauses at 6:30 to look up wet weights of both bikes because I’m a gigantic nerd. Apparently the HD is 677, while the 109 is 764. Nearly 90lbs.... Had no idea the 109 was that hefty 🤔 Insert the “The More You Know” gif here.... Great video/discussion, Brandon! Enjoy those nice south AL temps!

My Man!, Remember what I said...”if”, you see an oil leak, it’s probably the Rear Crank Case Breather Hose!😉
@__-gu4gq3 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm...VRODs are a little different and I have to agree with Sagee. If you ride them hard you are going to get oil splatter in the throttle body and air filter especially if you are redlining during accelerations and getting blowbacks. Remember VRODS also use the oil to cool the pistons and engine. I thought I had the same problem when I had 1300 miles on mine but it was just me riding too hard in which I also blew a hole in the breather hose in the air box around the velocity stack body which caused the bike to constantly backfire, run at a high temperature whereas the pipes would be fire red, and perform poorly at low speeds. Turned out to be an easy fix that some of the HD Techs in ATL did not know about the VRODs (Did compression test at two different dealerships and neither could figure out the problem nor did they notice the blown breather hose). I found the hole, fixed myself and have not had a problem since! So check the breather hoses and watch the blowbacks when accelerating.

With my little (I do mean small, with right at 12 subscribers currently; half of whom I know personally); I understand the balance. I also have a "day job" I get it on the retention - I film what I like and what I'd like to see. I also understand that it's not the most exciting. There's no drama, I don't do dank nooners, or speed excessively, or compile crash videos. I just...go for a ride. I did produce a series of "How To" vids on my bike so we'll see if those get a bit more traction.
