I use PMC X-TAC because of it's pretty low price. It's plentiful, ,and easy to find.

55 gr M193 is designed for a 20", 1:12 twist barrel. Achieved 0.25 in. grouping @ 100 yd. with Federal and 0.75 in. with Winchester ammo. Winchester is the only ammo I found that is a TRUE M193 ammo. It will obtain 3250 fps out of a 20" barrel.

55 grain M193 was originally designed for a 1 in 12 twist. A slower twist rate like 1:9 and 1:12 would produce better accuracy with M193 than 1:7. 1:7 works better with 62 grains and up. However your mileage may vary.

The issue is that the vast majority of entry level/mid range rifles have 1/7 twists save for the M&P15 II and AR556. 1/7 twist has been standardized by NATO thus making it a little tricky to find other twists:/ It also doesn't help that most indoor ranges and BLM areas ban M855/SS109, and 75-77 grain ammo is expensive

No it was designed for a 20” barrel twist rate doesn’t matter it only matters with heavy bullets you are fine with 1:7 1:8 1:9 and the original 556 was 50 grains then it mattered less than 50 grains slower twist

I prefer the PMC XTac simply because it has sealed primers, and quality control seems much better than Hornady frontier. Some of the Hornady I bought was dented and the bullets seemed haphazardly stuffed into the case. PMC XTac was all uniform and consistent. It's also $1 cheaper per box.

Ive noticed the hotter m193 is the less accurate it is.

I zero my M4A1 Socom at 36 yards with Magtech 5.56 and I try PMC X-TAC and men everything is hitting bullseye, I try Federal American Eagle and it shoot just like yours. Now am only shooting PMC X-TAC…..great video men

I just did a similar test with my M16A1, 1:12 twist and ironsights at 100 yds. Similar results! My advice to you is: do 10 round groups which I believe capture the dispersion better (in terms of statistical significance). Try using a good dispersion measure like mean radius from the center of the group and always count flyers! If you look at some of the online reports of these M193 clones out of accurized test barrels, you can at best hope for 10 groups with mean radii of 0.7-0.8". That's about 4-5" diameter extreme spreads when you account for your low probability "flyers". Don't expect MOA accuracy, but minute of man which is good enough!

When I am testing an ammo for accuracy potential I put on a lower that has a non mil spec trigger. Usually I use my RAVE 140 cassette trigger. That way I can eliminate the variable of trigger pull that comes from a heavy mil spec trigger.

Same results as mine: Hornady M193 and Xtac 62grain regularly gives me 3 inch groups at 200yds using a 1:7 16inch free float barrel. Norma 62grain shoots a bit better. Will be giving some Hornady 69gr a try next week.

I’ve gotten 1-1.5in groups at 100 yards pretty consistently with XTAC out of my DMR. It is my go to. It shoots good and it’s what I choose to stockpile. 400 yards no problem.

I’ve read on forums that it is like 70fps lower than other 193 or is that just the bronze? Do you know?

@@peeeoii2738 Bronze is NOT M193 spec, it is a .223 Remington loading. Velocities are waay lower for bronze and dirtier than X-TAC, be advised

best advice you gave was ..'find ammo your rifle likes' that being said Frontier and PMC are very consistent in most all ARs just ck out the many videos ... I especially like the Frontier 68 gr match, or i should say my Gov A2 1-7 in 20'' LIKES , but both these brands shoot well in all flavors in my two 1-8 /16 in ARs ..other brand that shoot very acceptable for me in my guns is Fiocchi 223 55/62grn and Freedom Munitions 223 /556.55/62 grn but it all boils down to what works best in your rifle... i would start with PMC and Frontier especially the match grade Frontier...nice video

I have several AR's of all different barrel types and twist rates but all 16 or 18 in and having tried probably 10 different different brands of ammunition I have settled in on the Hornady frontier as well. It is consistently faster and more accurate. I can actually get .75 MOA out of my 18-in stainless Rock River so yeah, I've got cans and cans of this stuff. Highly recommend Frontier.

Man I just bought 1000 rounds of Fiocci’s new m193, haven’t tested it yet but now I kinda wish I went with the X-tac but we’ll see the next weekend at the range if the Fiocci can hang.

I have also found the frontier to be decent amongst the other m193 fodder. Bullets from hornady seems to help, the fps still varies quite a bit and the SD's would scare any precision shooter but 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️hand that to the bulk LC loading process. Side note, good meeting you at the range, If you want some help on future projects let's meet up! I think I could add some value lol.

I exclusively only get am xm193 as it's reliable and shoots good. I only have a 100 yard range but once I got my acss 1-6 scope zeroed I fired 5 shots and 4 of the 5 were all touching each other in the center. Twist rate was 1/9 out of a 16 inch.

Lake City is a Federal facility for producing military ammo. Contractors run the facility with government over watch (QC). The contractors are allowed to run commercial contracts when there is a LAG in production. Hornady provides their bullets and the contractors use the same brass, primer, and powder as the MIL Spec rounds. My understanding on the TWIST rate is ... the bullet length has a more significant factor than weight in the formula. With that said, each rifle is different and tolerance are NOT the same. The 1:7 twist rate is better suited for 68gr rounds and up. The 77gr MK-262 is preferred. The reason why the 62gr was selected for the 1:7 twist rate was for TRACER rounds. They had failures with the tracer rounds under extreme cold conditions. Remember, we were in the COLD War era and our major threat was the Soviet Union.

What do you think of the xtac? Smokey dirty? It’s funny because the ammo itself looks like some of the best “looking” as far as loading but people say it’s dirty shooting compared to some other brands.

IMHO when it comes to bulk budget brass everything coming out of Lake City these days is inferior to the stuff being imported from Asia and Europe. To add insult to injury its almost always more expensive. I'd prefer to buy American but the imported stuff is just better.

There’s been word of multiple cases where the Frontier M193 had been “blowing guns up” from things such as blow primers. I wonder if that issue has been addressed in recent production batches.
