For the money I’m sticking with the pmc bronze and xtac. The 55 grain projectile is range safe and good clean burning stuff. Especially now, the pmc is still affordable in bulk. Sucks that Winchester ammo just isn’t up to what we expect out of stuff made in this country.

Wildly different results than I got on the Winchester M855 with my rifle. I was getting 1.5 MOA consistently and 1 MOA some groups just resting the rifle on a sandbag on the bench. My rifle is a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Tactical with the 16.1 inch barrel. It is in an Archangel Sparta chassis/stock with a Leatherwood Hi-Lux 1-4x24 LPVO, Magpul flip up BUIS, accessory rails bolted on, side mount bipod set, laser/light combo and an Angled Foregrip. I also use Steel Promag 30 round mags and Thermold 30 rounders. I fixed the Steel Promag reliability problems by replacing the followers with Ruger anti-tilt followers. Now, they run like Ruger factory mags.

The 20 inch guns have a lot of utility. With a 20 inch barrel, just about anything is pretty effective. Plus the 20 inch guns tend to be super flat shooting and smooth. If you're not getting in a gunfight inside an elevator, you should probably have a 20 inch barreled AR15. And I never understood why the M855 stuff gets such a bad wrap. It might not be the most accurate or the most effective, but it does a pretty good job at about everything. It will shoot flatter and hit harder at longer ranges than the M193, it fragments reliably at most gunfighting distances, if you give it 16 inches or more of barrel. It is easy to stockpile. It is a high velocity rifle round, and it does what it is supposed to do.
@AlaskanBallistics2 жыл бұрын
It gets a bad rap because it didn't do any of the jacket fragmentation out of the 14 and a 1/2 inch barrels in Somalia. But I agree with you 20" guns are even 18" guns are great

M855 on larger animals does a fantastic job, in Afghanistan soldiers shooting skinny Afghans said it just smoked straight through without fragmenting or yawing but in large game the bullet explodes pretty much and the penetrating core keeps penetrating, Ive seen an elk take a frontal chest shot from a 20 inch rifle and it bled more than anything I’ve ever seen

@cholly8906 жыл бұрын
Good effort, but all he did was demonstrate how to count rounds and shoot effectively over a chronograph. I'd like to know the velocity SD of each type of ammo. That's where "the rubber meets the road" in ammo selection for accuracy. I mean, the rifle is already starting to move in your arms before the bullet exits the bore. If you standardize the velocity, you standardize the amount of time it take to leave the bore, you standardize the movement and you eventually (if you're doing your part) will standardize the impact point. Better groups will follow.

Paul Harrell has a great video on how the barrel twist and length do practically nothing within 300 yards from 45g to 75g ammunition. The only difference is when trying to push past 300 yards and even then the difference between the longer barrel from shorter is that the shorter would have its groups open up maybe an inch or two.

It's not an AP round it has a penetrator me t for walls doors thin helmets vehicles things like that. But he's there good to have on have on hand. Exceptional energy out to 500 yards. Absolutely insane soft tissue penetration and an added chance to fragment. Nothing beats the 69 and 77 grain btfmj or bthp, the green tip penetrators have a time and a place. I like the 55 grain for the spleen but it drops off fast and loses every fast. It's is a 300 meter and under round and works great for that. The 62 is as explained. And the 69 and 77 have as much energy at 309 yards as a 55 grain does at 100. The 69 and 77 grain will be slower out of the muzzle than a 55 but at 300 it will be faster and have more energy than a 55 with a better BC resulting in more accurate shots and knockdown power.

Thank you for contributing and sharing to the community. What I take from this post are everything but Objective. You had few variables present to efficiently imply any indications of ammunition's accuracy. Firstly, you had conducted this test in an open field with so much crosswinds and every time there was a surge of wind noise picked up by your mic, I noticed that your shots opens up. Likewise the absence of such wind closed up the groups. Secondly, 3 shot does not render any meaningful indication of accuracy. Thirdly, is the human factor of course. Perhaps a more controlled environment would be prudent even if taking only the first 2 factors. As always, I stand corrected. Just my 0.02.

@@AlaskanBallistics Bro, "flak" vests haven't been worn since 1997. All OTVs or carriers have had plates since then. And those rounds won't penetrate a SAPI plate, let alone one of the new type plates (Patriot III, Safe Life, AR500 etc). Even the Steel core penetrators won't pass through them. So respectfully, it's not armor piercing in any sense of the words.

@@scout3058 and the m885 ball round was used way before 1997 history. So is it outdated yeah probably is a good for penetrating things like standard vehicle passenger car doors, yes. Is it going to penetrate today's modern armor no. We all know that. Thanks for watching have a great day

They're all built to mil-spec so one isn't better than the other.

Then why didn't they have the same accuracy and velocities?
@texassportsman58802 жыл бұрын
@@AlaskanBallistics Because no manufacturer will be able to precisely make each batch or lot of ammo with exactly the same velocity. As long as the performance is within NATO and mil-spec it'll be the same. So when you ask which is the best there isn't a best. What you'll have is ammo made that conforms within the specs. It's never the ammo or the rifle. Then main challenge is getting thr bullet down range to the target. So the best rifle and best ammo mean zero unless the rifleman posses basic marksmanship is accurate our to 300m Otherwise tur best of anything won't be good enough.

That's why there's differences within the same lot number and the same box. Theres enough videos out there that show various FPS of each round in the same box. You have to calculate the average of each box. If the manufacturer states the muzzle velocity is 2910 it's likely an average taken from several rounds from various lots. You'll never get 2910 fps from every single round in a box of 20 or a case of 1000. You'd be lucky for one round out of a 1000 to be exactly 2910 fps.

No one is arguing that they're aren't differences within each box, your statement was that all the brands load them to the same spec.. which means same powder, case thickness etc... simply not true
