Unfortunately, I watched a loader feeding rounds to the coax like this get his arm crushed when the driver slammed the tank into reverse at the top of the position, jumping the stabilized gun up into the turret roof. I used to do it myself when I was a loader, until I just cut the belt at about 150-200 rounds keeping the weight of the belt down. I see video like this loader now and it makes me cringe a little after what happened to the loader in my unit.

We would set up AN/PRC-77 jump radios in M1A2s back in the early 90s at Yakima training range in WA. The tower would eval the crew on performance and communications on the range in stationary fight positions and team movements while traversing down range. The M1A2 didn't live fire back in Fort Lewis and you can only do so much in a simulator.

When you called "identified tank, 1200", you lased and the TIS appeared to show over 2k range. What's up with that? Were you just calling battlesight range for simplicity?
@dreadnaught_37_kilo
@dreadnaught_37_kilo 4 жыл бұрын
Before I fire, I have to give a target description and a range, but the manual never says the range has to be accurate. However, notice how the tank commander doesn't tell the driver to move up from behind the berm until I give a range. The gunner can keep refining a range if their laze is bad while the tank is moving, but waiting to read off the actual range takes precious seconds away from the rest of the crew.

@cferbentn88
@cferbentn88 4 жыл бұрын
@@MonkeyLibFront We do the same. If the FCS has the ability to give a range, then it can be omitted from the fire command. Most gunners still give a range only b/c it's what they have been taught. When I was a gunner i learned to just say LOST every time I pulled triggers, not b/c I lost track of the round but b/c you must give a sensing, so it was just an expedient way to satisfy meeting the requirements.

There's not really an "extended version" as most of these are individual engagements that last anywhere from 50 seconds to 75 seconds. The closest to an "extended version" I would be able to get would be something similar to my "laying the hate" video, which is a lot of waiting around, and wouldn't be super engaging, even with thru-sight video. How exactly does the TC's gender affect her ability to fight the tank? I think the fact that she had only been on a tank for 2 weeks prior to this video has a lot more to do with it.
@CrowDawg11
@CrowDawg11 3 жыл бұрын
@@dreadnaught_37_kilo she is clearly not in command there. The gunner is walking all over her and commanding. Of course there's individual exceptions but nobody can honestly sit and deny that often times women are not assertive enough or command enough respect to keep control of their troops and she was most definitely not.
@dreadnaught_37_kilo
@dreadnaught_37_kilo 3 жыл бұрын
Once again, you're assuming it was due to gender rather than inexperience, even after I stated that inexperience was involved. Instances exist where females aren't assertive enough to command troops in battle, for sure. That's just a fact. But that doesn't excuse your automatic assumption that "lack of control = female" in this instance. Soldiers must be evaluated purely on their ability to complete a task. She didn't do great in this video. However, go ahead and show me a male soldier who can do better with 2 weeks of experience, and we'll talk about how your example is still an edge case and your argument is still discriminatory for no reason.

Perhaps in this world the new tank models almost used automatic reloading mechanism, but the American tank line still uses manual reloading mechanism. And even though it is twice as expensive as some other tanks, our country still has to choose it if it does not want to be sanctioned by the US.
@dreadnaught_37_kilo

What country are you in? The Japanese are the only nation that have a viable autoloader for a 120mm round (apparently one that reloads in only 3 seconds), and 125mm rounds as used in tanks such as the T-14 and T-90 have tradeoffs that reduce their effectiveness. In my opinion, a manual loader is far superior to an autoloader, but we're getting to the point technologically where that might not continue to be true. Still, I'd love to know where sanctions are being threatened over Tank contracts...

The coaxial machine gun doesn't use that handle as a safety, in fact, it's a huge safety violation to fire the coax with the arming handle engaged. It wasn't planned, the electronics to fire the machine gun came out of alignment, so I ended up having to fire it manually.

Watch your trigger pull, you launched that round before announcing on the way. Tell your loader to work on his stoppage drill. You should never have to get off the browpad. He just sat there. Announce stoppage, charge it, attempt to fire, announce stoppage, then your loader should hit the EL and fix the issue if he can. Good job firing manually. Remember, scan range fan to range fan

@@dreadnaught_37_kilo Yeah, not your best. Good training. 1. Your loader; though I defended him earlier, should be quicker. Not every shot you sling will be a hit- or even a kill. I know that you hit it, and the 2nd target was a coax target, but he can work it a bit faster. 2. Coax maintenance. You should have known you had an issue from your LFAST day. You know how to build the platform in the coax box? Get that solenoid adjusted, that should have been a prefire check. 3. Good job using your tactical break time to fix your coax. Most crews just hang out and flap in the wind. But... 4. WTF?!? Don't ever let your loader work on the gun like that with the cadillacs engaged! Especially when moving up! One hard stop, one slip, and your loader is between the breechring and turret roof, and guaranteed to pass his next Ht/Wt. You got to have him work on it, fine; let go the handles, and make sure he's clear before you pull up. 5. Yep, there's a trigger on the coax. Good job finding it. 6. Coax zero can be tighter. Lastly....TC. Your gunner does not run your tank. You are the tank COMMANDER, not the tank rider. You should be doing more to scan, to prep your crew, to LEAD the engagement. You have a good gunner, but he's carrying you. You need to work the crew duties, chair drills and get comfortable doing that job. You're the brains of that crew, you need to step up and act like it. Gunner, good job. Hope you've been to the board, and have your own tank; you seem like you're ready for it. Hope your TTVI went well.
