Make 1 (M1) increases are used in many different types of knitting projects from socks to gloves, lace work to sweaters. Being able to create a M1 increase that leans right (M1R) vs a M1 which leans to the left (M1L) will allow you to create knitting that carries nice clean lines that will improve the look of your work. The url for the M1L video is • M1L (Make 1 Left) incr...

I m grateful for leftie education. I learned form you quickly!!! Once watching. Whereas watching right handed was difficult…. When I was at school like 10 years old nobody told me you don’t learn because of this and I always felt I do t know and so I lost my confidence in doing handcrafts! Now years later I see I have so much passion and talent in doing handy works. Such a shame how exclusive education can leave ppl feel frustrated and also society loses the contributions those people can make !

Bill, i need help with whatever a Make 1 backward loop. There are some right handed videos out here but I'm having a mental block about doing it. You've helped me by leaps and bounds and i salute you for it. I can't understand why it is that with lefties being 12 percent of population, why is so little help available. I have a funny story about the LYS owner was di intrigued by my left handedness, she asked me (a newbie) to demonstrate for her how i knit when I actually was gonna ask her for help. I kinda felt freakish. So funny. If you could give a tip or pointer it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you reverse the pattern - make one right when it says M1L? since patterns are written for right handed knitters?

It depends on what I am doing. When it comes to the heel of a sock or the shoulder increases in a sweater I ABSOLUTELY switch out the increases and decreases to ensure a smooth visual like. On scarves, shawls etc I do not bother to swap them out. On a flat piece which does not need to fit the body I am perfectly happy with making a mirror image. If there is a necessary clean visual line, such as shoulder increases in a sweater I will absolutely swap them out in order to have the linear delineation be clean. I hope this help :)

When the pattern (right-handed instructions) calls for M1L - do we lefties make a M1R? And vice a versa?

I heard that left handed M1R is done like M1L for right handed. Could you tell me, when in the pattern there is M1R, K3, M1L, should I as a left handed person do M1L, K3, M1R?????
@YarnCrafts4lefties
@YarnCrafts4lefties Жыл бұрын
When making clothing, such as sweaters, gloves, etc., it's important to swap the increases so the visual lines are clean. When making a hat, scarf or shawl it is completely up to you if you wish to swap them or not. Hope this helps.

@@YarnCrafts4lefties Ok, so if the sweater patterns says M1R, K3, 1L then I do M1L, k3, M1R as shown for lefties, yes?

So if the R handed pattern calls for a M1R, should I do a M1L?
@YarnCrafts4lefties
@YarnCrafts4lefties Жыл бұрын
It really depends. In a scarf I wouldn't bother changing them but in a sweater where the slant impacts the visual line then yes, I would swap. :)
