Thank you! I tried multiple books and videos to try to figure out how to get started, and this one made it so easy and simple. Now to learn the next step! I already crochet, but just love the look of knits so much that I really want to learn. 😊

Hi A sun. That is a great question. The tension for the cast on edge is going to be determined by the yarn that goes around your thumb. What is happening is you are sometimes pulling it tighter and other times looser. If you pull tight all the way across you will remove a good portion of the elasticity of the long tail cast on so you do want to be careful with that. If you leave too much you get a loopy, sloppy looking cast on. The inconsistency you are experiencing is a blend of those two issues. I liken knitting to Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. It always comes down to getting things "just right." The trick that helps me to get it "just right" is to put my finger tips between the old stitch and the new stitch so I can keep them consistently spaced and actually feel the yarn being drawn in when I tension the yarn from my thumb. When I feel the new stitch begin to press against my thumb I know it's my "just right". It will take some practice for you to get it down. I suggest doing some practice with a larger yarn such as worsted and then once you get an idea of what you are looking and feeling for switch to the yarn you are needing for your project and I think you will find you get more of the result you are looking for! I am currently working on a blog article for the long tail cast on addressing these issues and will be having pictures that help to illustrate these items so keep a look at on www.yarncraftsforlefties.com!

I would love a more straight- on view of the bottom of the cast, like the complete underside. Does it look like a cast off?

I usually use long tail cast on. I have a crazy way of doing it for ribbing. I recently saw a video for cable cast on & alternate cable cast on but they were for righties. Can you do these for lefties? Perhaps you can make a video??? Thanks, Sue

Why do we need to leave such a long tail?
@YarnCrafts4lefties
@YarnCrafts4lefties 8 жыл бұрын
The tail only needs to be long enough to cast on your stitches and leave a 4 to 6 inch length when done casting on so you can weave in the end. Why the tail needs to be long is because some of it is used up with every stitch cast on. With out a "long-tail" paired with the working yarn you cannot complete any cast on in the long-tail family.
