Check my video for the lace bind off and see if that will fork for you. If you work the cast off loosely I think you'll find that will work for you.

Do you reverse the pattern - make one right when it says M1L? since patterns are written for right handed knitters?

It depends on what I am doing. When it comes to the heel of a sock or the shoulder increases in a sweater I ABSOLUTELY switch out the increases and decreases to ensure a smooth visual like. On scarves, shawls etc I do not bother to swap them out. On a flat piece which does not need to fit the body I am perfectly happy with making a mirror image. If there is a necessary clean visual line, such as shoulder increases in a sweater I will absolutely swap them out in order to have the linear delineation be clean. I hope this help :)

Thank you for sharing this video. I needed one for a lefty with good audio -- and you gave me both. Bonus: you're right -- the crochet hook is MUCH easier. Thank you!!! I'm about to cast on for the Isen shawl -- 800+ stitches! Wish me luck. :D
