The M2 Competition is finally run in! It's now had it's 1,200 mile running-in service and I can now use all of it's 7,600 RPMs!
A quick update video on the M2 comp & my (totally unbiased!) opinion on the car!

Also a key worker and just had my M2 Competition serviced. I agree, it was a revelation when I first opened it up. I am certainly heading to Scotland when we are permitted to drive for pleasure. Take care and stay safe.

Excellent series of advanced driving videos you have, I recently picked up an M235i running closer to 400bhp, Hoping to venture out more with it after lockdown.

Enjoying your videos, i've got a M2C with 800 miles on. Just driving it randomly now to get the miles on it and the service done! shame the weather is getting bad, not as much fun. Pretty sure the oil in the car from factory is not any different to what they put in after the run-in service, think thats just garbage the dealers tell you. M2C should run on 0w-30 and certainly couldn't put anything thinner in than that in the UK.

I commute on the M65/M61. Think I'll try that route you took, it looks good.

Great to see that you are getting to add a few more miles miles in that amazing car and without the restriction on revs. I got to hear that impressive exhaust note as you departed across the car park on the 28th March. Thanks for your time that afternoon and hopefully my associate can achieve a good pass on the advanced test when things return to normal. Enjoy Scotland when the opportunity arises.

My M2 button is identical including MDM. It gives you just enough slip to have some sideways fun but being mostly safe. Hoon it coming out of a junction and watch it slide. Great fun. Enjoy.

Can't wait to watch some adventures in Scotland. You should consider making a POV video on these roads.

Good to see you enjoying it, I bought the same car last September, it’s not the daily, so has similar miles. Seriously thinking about keeping it long term as the “fun” car and just use the “ appliance” for everything else. Who knows in 20 years they might be sought after as one of the last decent old school M cars.

I had an F80 M3 Comp until October last year when I swapped it for a Manual M2 Comp. The M2 is so much better to drive. Living on the Yorkshire roads that Reg drives on its defiantly better suited for that roads as well. I really do think it is going to be a collectors piece on 20+ years time. maybe not as desirable as the 1M but it will be up there. Im keeping mine forever!

Hi Reg, great to see an update on the car. I’ve had mine for around 7 months and it is a similar spec / same colour as your car. I find the handling the most impressive feature (I came from a 4 year ownership of a 65 plate M135i) tho its not shy in letting those rears move around. The power has an unusual feel - as it goes through the range you can feel the grunt hit hard but it feels like it flattens out towards the top of the band. It’s not a bad thing but it’s less ferocious than say an M4 Competition at the top end with the same engine. This seems to align with some of the rolling road comparisons where the power / torque curves compared to the other S55 reflect that perception (see NV Motorsport M2 Competition video on you tube). Overall I think it’s one of the best little cars for fun at the moment though as a non-key worker it’s currently a dust magnet at the side of the house! I’m on the cusp of buying the Alcantara steering wheel and MMR gear paddles to enhance the feel of the major touch points - but as a Scotsman I’m tight so maybe not😂. Looking forward to future vlogs in the highlands with the M2C, all the best Kevin.

Kevin McG The power holds steady on the M2 comp at about 400 bhp from about 5000rpm to near red line, it keeps building on the M4 comp, same engine obviously nobbled a bit to justify the M4s position. It would be nice to be able to flash the M4 map into the M2 C without going for one of the aftermarket big power maps.

Jonathan Tyas agree with your comment, if you search on KZbin for ‘NV Motorsport M2 Competition’ they do that very change whilst sorting out a stage 1 tune.

How does the comp compare to the original. Can't make my mind up between the two cars. Is the extra 10 grand worth it?

I'm taking my bike up to Scotland later in the year (well, hopefully anyway). Was supposed to be next week but obviously had to cancel. Any plans to start offering coaching days on the Bike? Either way I'd like to spend the day with you in the car again towards the end of the year. I retook my RoSPA test in February and I give you the credit for helping me achieve the Gold again! I'll drop you an email later in the year when hopefully all this craziness is somewhat behind us.

Hi Josh, yes, I’m an IAM examiner for bikes now, so I can offer bike coaching days as well as cars. Drop me an email & we’ll sort something out.

Interesting that a true driver like you went with the dual clutch. I would also go with the dct. What are your reasons for going with the dct over the manuel?
@RegLocal
@RegLocal 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! If I’d have ordered the car I’d have probably gone for a manual, but it was in stock with some nice options at a very good price! I’ve driven quite a few DCT M cars, and I’ve always though it was an excellent transmission, so it was pretty much a no brainer to be honest. I’m not regretting my decision at all!!
@JonathanTyas
@JonathanTyas 4 жыл бұрын
TurgBurglar I went for dual clutch on mine as by every metric it is better apart from weight, it can change gear quicker, it’s a stronger box and it has a higher top gear. That and I never really rate BMW manual boxes, they certainly aren’t top notch, where the DCT is close to the top of its game.

Jonathan Tyas I agree with you! I have driven a manual m2, and would go with the dct if I was to buy. I love the manual in my 981 gt4 to bits though. Every cars gearbox decision has to be evaluated on its own merits, can’t be a blanket decision.

Dude you are so slow! I thought you were warming the engine up the whole time! I can recommend you some advanced driving coaches if you want? None of this RoSPA/IAM horseshit where they can't even heel and toe lol, I mean actual high performance driving where, ya know, you deliver some performance...
