I want a e92 m3 wrapped in Miami blue as a project car. But my fiancée didn’t allow cuz I js got a cayenne gts 2024 upgraded from a 24 cayenne s e, my parents paid the difference for taht one, then now I need a replacement in 2025 for my 2022 m5 comp cuz it’s going up in value and tech issues are getting common. So I probably have to wait for a year to drop 10k

@@davidog4 Ik, im fine with a lot of g series cars, even the m5. I’m just not liking the x3 and the ix, it’s ruining the brand. And I’ve owned 4 BMWs now I want to try something new, like amg or RS. (I used to have a 2019 x2 in alpine white (crashed totaled), not too long after I got a m240i as a little sports car. then I got a 2021 x3 m40 cuz I saw how affordable it was for a 6 cyl. The m40 wasn’t enough space so I gave it to my sister who js turned 16 back in 2022 so I gave her the x3. Then in February of 2023, the 240 started tweaking and having problems with the headlights not working, key fob not opening the vehicle, and I’ve put 50k km on it. I always wanted a gran coupe, so I looked for an m8. But back then I don’t know if it was Covid but it took me 4 months to get an m8 gran coupe, all they had in stock were 2 convertibles and 7 coupes not even in frozen black which was the colour I wanted. Then I saw the m5 comp, matte black, every package other than the ultimate package. Fell in love with it and got it. Don’t have any regrets but now like all BMWs, the sunroof not working, key fob not working and the ac. Plus the new m5 really increased the value of the f90, so I think I’m going to keep my f90 until early 2025 or late 2024 and get a used rs5 or 2025 e63

I always change the oil every 5k to 7k miles max. For me, it has been the most reliable car i ever owned and will drive it till it falls apart. I have had a number of "fun" cars over the years including a Mustang GT w/ performance pack, a GT350, a couple E36 M3s, and also an E90 M3 with the manual. Out of all of them, I miss the E90 by far the most. It is just a superb vehicle (engine issues notwithstanding).

@willjam465
@willjam465 3 ай бұрын
@@AmosDohms it was fun. Great exhaust note, people loved it as it was right after they came out. It was just not as refined as the E90 M3. Felt larger on the road too. With such wide front tires, the tramlining was a problem on many of the roads around here. I didn’t drive it much as it was a second car for me, so it just sat. Was a lot of money just to sit in the garage, so I sold it. While the GT350 is usually more popular at the cars and coffee, the M3 just wins at the end of the day to me.

@@willjam465 The GT350, especially the R, seem fairly track focused to me, though definitely great for sporty road driving too. If I remember correctly, they're a fair bit quicker then the M3, but I totally get that they'd be less refined.

For anybody watching this, I'd also look at the Mr12volt unit for these cars, especially if you have the individual audio package. The Mr12volt hooks in using the fiber optic line on the CD player and has significantly better audio quality vs. the aux port. It functions identically to the bimmertech unit as well.

I'm planning on doing that with my E64 M6 for audio quality purposes like you say, but if your BMW didn't have the CD changer option from new you do need to get that feature programmed on so the factory head unit recognizes the fiber optic input.

First off congrats and I'll add I've had several M cars over the years starting with a 2013 E92 M3, my first mod was a Akrvpovic exhaust and 2nd was a Brembo big brake upgrade after 2 years of ownership . I do miss the steering and revving the V8 out to redline, it'll give you a smile just getting on the freeway. I actually liked it better than my old F82 M4. I now have a G82 M4C and it is the best performing M car to date, for me. You're right about soul and the E92 had it in spades. You'll love it and you've educated yourself about the throttle actuators and rod bearings already. Doing it for piece of mind for any new E92 owner is my advice and then you can drive the wheels off it. One of the best M cars BMW produced....enjoy. One more thing mod wise...if you want more intake noise look at Eventuri carbon intakes, they make a great product for the E9* BMW.

They are so much fun. Just do your maintenance.
@Bigtigerr4774
@Bigtigerr4774 3 ай бұрын
Word of precaution/advice Miles, if you want to enjoy the s65 for as long as possible, do not just do the preventative maintenance that everybody talks about: Rod bearing as throttle actuators. Yes, they are important maintenance items, and should not be ignored, but there is another maintenance item which is arguably even more important on these engines. > Main bearings < Sreten from m539 explains the reason in very precise detail, as well as the guys from FCPeuro (tldr: since its a double-link timing chain, the tension exerted on the crank and main bearings under load often leads to these engines going through catastrophic failures caused by too tight tolerances between the main bearings and crank.) Some quality main bearings that provide more clearance will make sure the risk of a spun main bearing (or worst case a "bluetooth" crankshaft, iykyk) is reduced significantly and improve the life expectancy of the mighty s65 exponentially.

That's a really nice e92, hope it's good to you! love my e93. On reliability, IDK, 111k miles, had fresh throttle body actuators on it when I got it at 80k, and I havent't done anything major. I did replace the motor mounts, and the fuel sending unit over the last 5 years. Evolve did bearings on a 160k e92 with original bearings on their channel, maybe it's hit or miss but well maintained s65's can last. Mine has been better than I expected. I really like the idea of mapping my DCT, but it's pretty responsive in the right stock mode, and great to shift. It's light on torque but really great to drive above 4k rpm. It's also a comfortable daily if you can forget about the gas milage.

I wouldn’t say it’s unreliable. I own one of these and it’s had no issues at all. Mainly just maintenance and taking care of issues before they happen. With that said I’ve personally done most of the work. It’s been a pleasure to work with. Some of the maintenance items I’ve done: Rod bearings (done by a shop) and everything that could be done while in there. So motor mounts, gaskets etc. Valve cover gaskets and vanos caps (slon) Fuel injectors Spark plugs Oil filter housing gasket All fluids Brakes all around Mods I’ve done: Carbon plenum M spoiler Carbon mirror caps M splitters Carbon diffuser dinan xpipe Alcantara wheel Magnetic paddles Red start and m button Mr12volt unit Gts tune for the dct I had it wrapped but I just peeled it off Changed from 219 wheels to 359 Prob more things but I would probably have to think about it Overall this car checks all my boxes it’s so fun to drive and sometimes when you’ve had a bad day it’s just so nice to get behind the wheels and getaway

The E9x M3s are extremely well balanced in all categories, from handling, to speed, to even reliability, given it's a low-torque motor you're not really stressing the drivetrain. I love that I can use every ounce on my car's capability while maintaining control and engaging with it's responsiveness. Newer BMWs just feel too artificial to me, and having multiple N54 and N55 cars eventually bored me since you can't truly use all of the car without spinning tires, breaking axles, and prematurely wearing motor mounts. Even with M3 control arms, koni struts, and LSD conversion, my E90 335i still was unpredictable.

It’s just everything you do you get rewarded with glorious engine sound. I’ve been daily driving it for the past 2 year and I promise you the N/A v8 is more reliable than any BMW with a turbo other than the b58/b48 obviously. My S50B32 (Euro M3 E36 321hp) “exploded” with 157.000km (less than 100.000miles). A connecting rod cutted literally the block and the pan in two. I only could reuse or sell the valve train and keep some pistons and rods as souvenirs… not much more from the engine block. This problems with the Connecting rod bearings is something I never had to deal with any other high output engine of any brand I ever had in the last 20 years. My two Jaguars R (4.2 V8 supercharger) had been incredible reliable for more than 500.000km without having to open the engine for anything and changing oil every 16.000km. My Audi S8 (v8 360hp) is also 300.000km and 25 years old, and the engine is still as it came from the factory. Conclusion: BMW M and reliable, are not compatible words for my taste

Arguably the S63 in the F10 M5 is a hell of a lot more unreliable... but you can't go wrong with an E9X, great choice!
@Sorry_ImTruthful
@Sorry_ImTruthful 3 ай бұрын
The whole rod bearing thing is just for peace mind. Not all e9x are time bombs. But the “actuators” is definitely a time bomb, even after changing them, you’re just resetting the clock 😅

I love driving manual and I miss it already even though it’s only been a few weeks but daily driving almost 400 miles weekly gets very tiring with a manual.

I don't know. If I was American, I would go local for the V8. American V8s just have their own character. I get American cars are crappy. But I heard a mustang with a V8 once. Sounds pretty cool. Not going to lie
@CarswithMiles
@CarswithMiles 3 ай бұрын
American V8s are great for what they are. But I prefer the high-revving, more peaky nature of this motor. It's got a character that only a few American V8s have come close to

Congrats on the car, still have my E90 M3 after 15 years and still debating to part from it. I would have recommended the mr12volt over the MMI prime as it uses the fiber optic connection over having to run the Aux cable and the sound quality is amazing.
@CarswithMiles
@CarswithMiles 3 ай бұрын
There's actually a way to code out the Aux necessity to get the better audio quality with the MMI Prime. I haven't done it yet but I plan on it for sure.

Thanks for the awesome video! Would it be a bad idea to get an E92 M3 as a daily? What do you drive for daily then? Are you satisfied with the black interior? I always wanted red but I found one with black.. everything else seems great in condition.. By the way, wouldn’t MMI cause any electrical problem later?

If you think bmw dct is good, try out porsche pdk next time. I went f80 m3 dct to 911 4s pdk. Its night and day difference. Hype is real on porsche pdk. So smooth, so quick and smart too(car actually knows when to down shift). No clunking on 1-2nd gear like bmw.

Just came to say that the S65 is far from being the most unreliable BMW V8 lol. That title goes to the N62, S62, N63 and S63. I absolutely love the E9X M3, I hope I can get it some day.

Miles, if it was between the transmission in your car or the manual for E92 M3? Personally for the E9X M cars i would choose to manual swap if i could.

@@CarswithMilesgotcha. Just always curious why some people do it even on a brand new car. I have a 16 Mustang GT and I’ve just thought about it when the AC has a moldy smell when you first start it. Other than that if it doesn’t have a smell I rather not add a smell.
