Coming from a 2012 Macbook Pro (base) to the Macbook Air M2 midnight 512 GB, 16 GB ram, and 10-core GPU, it was definitely worth the upgrade. I could have upgraded a lot sooner. However having to hear people having issues with the butterfly keyboard, and getting rid of the MagSafe charger was a huge turn-off for me. But since I use my Macbook Air M2 for grad school and browsing the web, it is worth the upgraded specs. I've never had a performance issue for the 4 months I've had the Macbook Air M2. The portability of the Macbook Air is perfect, screen size and quality is amazing, and the battery life is unbelievable.

I use 3-4 containers running , sometimes 2 emulators and android studio, sometimes a ton of tabs and vs code and an emulator. And i use 8-10 apps running on background which boosts my mac efficiently (cleanMymac , maccy , textsnip etc ) Works smoothly. And I never used the performance mode . Keep it on power saving mode and still don't feel any issues with performance.heating is around 37-47°C. And the best part is i use it for like 16hrs each day. So donno about others. I'm satisfied with this performance. I faced the port color issue . but never noticed fingerprint that much. But i noticed dusts a lot because of balck color.

I have been trying to decide between an M2 Air and an M2 14" MBP. At first is seems like these systems are far apart, but once you start configuring the Air with 512 SSD and 16 GB memory to address the storage limitation and lagginess with multiple applications you mention, the prices are within $300.

Same dilemma here too. After looking at the ram and the SSD that you can upgrade to in mac air m2, I would go with a the m2 air solely due to the reason that I have to travel a lot with my laptop so it should be light in weight. I am a student who codes, not heavy coding. However, in m2 pro there is a fan in the laptop which can cool your the device keeping the performance consistent, otherwise for air m2 which has no fan.

The 16/512 air with cooling mod is signifixantly faster than the 16/512 pro because the base pro is under specced just like the air is in base config. The base models have single channel ram etc. Which makes them underperform. To let the true potential of the cpu/gpu come through you need to give it what it needs to perform. So base spec is far slower than it should, and apple claiming xx% faster means nothing as the system speed is slower. Thats why m1 air is faster than a base m2 and if you unlock the m2 air with dual channel ram and dual SSD it outperforms the base pro even though the pro has a Superior cpu/gpu it is slower. So with mac you need to see can i live fine with base spec something most people can, if not you need to see if mac is worth it compared to pc as upgrade prices for mac is extremely overpriced and you cannot upgrade it later as you can with a pc. You can not grow with your mac as you can with a pc. If you still are on mac despite the upgrade cost then dont compare directly with base higher model as that also is an underperformer. The pro need 32gb to unlock the cpu/gpu and then you see the price is not that close anymore.

Almos three months in and I love it. Smooth, fast, light, good looking, great keyboard. I traded in a mid-2017 MacBook Pro 13" without touch bar. That machine did everything I needed and saved me-I bought it in a rush when an earlier Air (2013) developed a weird keyboard illness and I was in the middle of a big project. But I hated not having MagSafe, and the keyboard sucked. I had Apple replaced it when the space bar stopped working and other keys sometimes worked, sometimes not. So this does everything I need to do--writing my blog, editing photos, watching Arthur, etc. I did opt for the 512 gb model, and added 8 gb for 16 gb total. Honestly, I don't have to think about the machine, it just does what I want it to do, no sweat. And it never heats up, so I can't use it as a winter lap warmer.

The only thing I am not used to is the size difference for keyboard travel which took a day to get used to. I like that that function buttons are bigger, the display is great always has been on macbooks. The speakers are so loud! The camera quality is so much better! Magsafe and Usb C I finally have ports! I chose an M2 10 core chipset with 512 SSD. So the battery life has been about 2 days for educational use, and other consumption. This is such a great macbook $1200 was the sale price for my version. They go on sale for $999 for the base M2 & $749 for the M1 air. Theres not alot of negatives in my use case. But I would say this is a Pro level Macbook for the performance its like a millisecond for mine to boot anything. Its instantaneous on all applications Ive used.

Hey there, I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your long-term review of the M2 MacBook Air. I am always a little hesitant to buy a new product, but your honest and casual review after 3 months of usage helped me to make a decision. You shared a lot of information about the performance, battery life, and overall experience with the MacBook Air. I appreciate your attention to detail and the way you explained the positive and negative aspects of the laptop. I went for the M2 Pro in the end but you helped me make my decision :)

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro 15.4” and I got a screaming deal on a 14” pro a couple months ago but I returned it a few days later. Just couldn’t get over the smaller screen, I’m so used to a bigger one. The 16” pro is just out of my budget. The M2 air would definitely be too small of a screen for me so I’m kinda torn. I just do regular everyday tasks, no heavy video editing but, if I’m gonna replace my 10 year old pro with something, I want it to be legit.

I just got my MacBook Air in midnight blue. I have an iMac M1 and only need this air for basic stuff and photo editing. I absolutely love it. It's a joy to use. I decided not to go for the pro variant as the air is pretty much on par with it, minus the fan which I know can slow the Air down. I haven't noticed any overheating yet. My critique would be that the midnight blue colour is a total finger print magnet.Kinda driving me mad. I bought a cover for the Air, so hopefully that will prevent this issue and protect the computer from damage. My last Air was full of scratches and I was so careful with it. Loved this video. very honest review.

@@phil649 I am very satisfied, it's the perfect travel/couch potato laptop for me, I really like how thin and light it is. I have the Studio Max as my primary computer so I didn't need a powerhouse laptop. TBH I was really torn between the MBA and the 14 MBP, especially when it went on sale, but even then it was $550 more than the MBA (both at sale prices). I had already exhausted my computer budget with the Studio Max so I couldn't justify the extra expense. If cost hadn't been an issue I would have purchased the 14 MBP, thin and light be damned.

For basic work, 8GB is great. I have been using Windows and Mac 8GB machines for office work and no slowdowns. If you start using pro apps or are opening hundreds of browser tabs, then just buy 24GB model as that is what you need. I heard 80% of MB Airs sold are 8GB and people are fine. So I feel you are sadly mistaken and simply do not understand that there are billions of users and not all need masses of RAM.

Thanks Arthur, excellent video. I ordered a new 15" M2 MBA today and (this might surprise) I am selling my 16" M2 MacBook Pro. I am a video editor, and a writer, and my main reason for swapping over to the Air is the weight difference. One pound might not seem like much, but in carrying the MBP around all the time in a backpack, it feels like a lot, to me. Because I do edit video, I did spring for the 16GB of 'unified memory', and the faster 512GB SSD. All editors use remote drives for media anyway (and I have a stack of fast USB-3 SSDs for this purpose) so I think the speed side will be covered. And I know rendering will be slower, but by then my work is done, and I'll have a cup of tea while waiting! And I did compare the two screens in the Mac store before making this somewhat mad decision, but I think it will be fine. I will report back once I have cut a few programs (we have a channel here, too) and let your readers know if this decision turns out to be the right one. And if it is compromised performance-wise, I'll either wait for an M3 MBA next year, or get the 14" M2 MBP.

To make it easy for anyone looking to buy a new MacBook, probably having issues picking one of those (14' MBP m2 or MB air m2. Points to consider: 1. What do you need it for. 2. Is size and weight a big matter to you 3. do you have other laptops for gaming / heavy tasks 4. where you will mostly position your laptop desk, bed etc ... Since both machines will cost nearly the same at the same specs , the main problem will be size and weight , heat/noise. If you are a light user who watches movies read docs and pdfs and play some Apple arcade games etc. I believe this is the best machine in the right size and weight, where you can carry it around and put it anywhere easily. If you are more concerned about heavier tasks and it will be your main machine , and size and weight is not a problem to you then MBP m2 would be a better option. Also consider picking more RAMs than going for the base model. Thanks
