I would really like to see how Arm MACS cope with high track counts at ultra low buffer sizes. To this day I can't find one example of it. I'll know soon enough myself when I purchase my mini, but this is what's important to me personally. I know they are powerful with large track counts but with almost all major DAWS on MAC having hybrid buffers (large playback buffer) it doesn't at all really stress the system to see what its true metal is made of. Ableton Live would be a perfect DAW to test for this, cause if you set Live at 64 buffer, every track is on 64 buffer regardless of type or mode, because Live does not use safety playback buffers like Logic, PT, S1, Cubendo, etc. I believe Reaper and DP also work at real buffer sizes but have their own tricks up their sleeves with a kind of pre render. So.... The real test is to record arm tracks in Logic and the like, or use something like Ableton at low buffer. My 2c. PS I hope this means you understand that your session was NOT running at 32 samples. It was running at 1024 the entire time except any audio tracks that may have been record armed or any virtual instrument tracks highlighted on the project page. That would have put them into 32 mode, JUST those tracks. I am amazed Logic has worked this way since the PC Days and people still think when they set 32 buffer that they are playing their large projects back at 32 buffer. Perfect example. At time 04:10, the only track in your entire project running on 32 buffer is the CS80 VI. Every other track shown is running at the "medium" process buffer you have chosen in preferences, which is 1024 samples.

Hi. Thank you very much for this amazing and very informative video. I have one question. Can you please tell me did you have a chance to test this M Mac Mini desktop with any Acustica Audio-s plugins (Nebula, or they're Acqua plugins) , witch are notorious for having high CPU usage? Or some plugins with new new technology AI capturing plugins, with algorithms to create realistic captures of analog hardware units. NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) and Proteus plugin. This plugins are designed for capturing profiles of guitar amps and pedals, but are unbeatable for any analog hardware emulations that needs nonlinear behavior like saturation, distortion, compression. This plugins are also pretty CPU demanding. Can this Mac Mini-s work with solid amount of tracks, and large number of this plugins on them? Sorry on my bad English.

Thank you so much for this video! This is exactly what I was looking for, since I'm upgrading from an intel i9 mbp. I'm in a bit of a niche in my country as a full time Mixing Engineer specializing in LPX since I receive most files in that DAW. Out of curiosity, have you tried mixing in 96khz or 192khz with the M2 Pro? Intrigued with the results and always been fascinated on the idea on the day we get to do that without problems.

Hi André, This is excellent, thank you. Just out of interest, do you know how well the 12 Core Mac Mini M2 Pro will perform with the Benchmark test? Still going round in circles with Mac Mini M2 vs Mac Mini M2 Pro (10 or 12 Core, 16 or 32 RAM) vs Mac Studio. Don't think that I will ever have a session go over 100 tracks but would be keen to hear your thoughts. Thanks again.

Hi Andrew! I think that with the M2 pro 12 cores you should expect an increase from 10 to 20% in performance which can be even higher if you go with 32Gb of ram. The base Mac Studio will probably be around the same as the M2 pro base model since it has the same amount of cores, although it has more GPU which can make a slight difference. I think you should have a clear idea of what you’re going to be doing in the future and choose the specs with that in mind, if you’re going to be using a lot of heavy virtual instruments maybe you should go with the Mac Studio 20 cores version p.e. Or you could do the benchmark test in your current machine and compare with this one and then use common sense like, let’s assume your current computer struggles to do the job, how much of a difference makes the benchmark test in comparison with this one? If it runs like 10 less tracks you know the M2 Pro base model won’t be enough.. you see where I’m going.

But, i can only do 42 tracks that i multiple with the same strings, with buffer 1080 buffer size on 48000 khz. Is it normal? I only used the extern VST analog lab for my test ( but multiply in 42 tracks as i said)

I'm currently using a fully maxed out 2012 27 imac with 500gb SSD and 32gb ram and it's getting a bit old. Would a mac mini m2 pro and my choice of display be a worthy upgrade? I'm not into any graphics intensive video editing but have a home based project studio running Logic, Protools and a stack load of third party plug ins. Is the 512gb SSD and 16gb RAM of the Mac Mini m2 Pro enough for a machine to be used solely for music production that's future proofed for at least a few years? Your advice is much appreciated and keep up the great work.

Hey! I think you should notice a big difference in performance with the m2 pro, in regards to the disk space you’re already used to have 500gb if that’s enough you should probably go with the base model. I prefer to use external ssd because the price you pay upgrading it’s just too high imho. Cheers 🍻
