@@MyFriendlyPup I bought my M1 Ultra when it was first released on 03/22/22. Delivered on 05/23/22. So it was new then! I have zero regrets. It works amazing and blazing fast. If you wait for the newest tech, you will never buy tech :) I was using my 2012 Mac Pro (Classic) (new to me in 2012) with dual Xeon CPU for over 10 years.

I just ordered a max'ed out M2 Ultra and should be arriving in a couple days! The journal entires, documents, and notes I wrote out over-thinking and justifying the purchase was comical, but I feel so seen by the points you made here. Lofty as a machine as it is, it's practical uses for my workflow, and the scale of clients I have rejected in the past due to cpu limitations that I can now onboard really justify going with this machine. And knowing how the M2 Ultra is capable of local machine learning makes me really want to learn about training AI models locally. :) I have quietly suffered for too long trying to render 3d graphics, edit multiple 8K streams, on my 2019 intel MacBook pro. Never enough space for more than one project. The project I am working on now I have to edit in chunks because the footage is more than my onboard hard drive space. I am over the moon knowing this is the last project I have to edit on this machine. Thank you for this superbly filmed video.

You should think about an OWC 4M2 enclosure with 4 of the Samsung 990 Pro 4 Tb SSD. I set up 2 of these 16 Tb combinations and I love them! You can use Apple Raid Software to keep the cost down and set up a Raid 0. The software is a joy too and it is free. I get 2800 r/w. and it is pretty hard to run out of storage!

Just got myself a Studio (m2 base model), and I'm so happy with the performance (and my 4 monitors working properly). Sold my M1 Pro Macbook to help pay for it. I still need to occasionally code or do work on the go so I purchased a baseline 15" M2 Air (used). I really feel the base models are where you get maximum value with Apple and this dual computer "hack" has proved the best Apple decision I've made in years. I get 15" screen which I prefer over the 14" pro anyway! not to mention completely removed any complicated desktop setups with docks and extra ports etc. Loving just being able to grab the laptop and go on a whim. To get even that base model Studio level of power (and RAM) inside a Macbook would have cost about the same as my two computers (possibly even MORE). Shit yeah. The Studio is so good.

I have been using a i9 9900k and planning to upgrade real soon. Currently skeptical about whether i should buy a mac or build a pc. My main workflow is mostly adobe premiere pro and after effects and i work a lot with dynamic link and motion graphics. The m2 ultra build is costing me $6000 which is a lot. Will this machine last in terms of performance for the next 5 years if i buy it? What do you guys think? Or im better off building a pc?

I bought this M2 Ultra Studio with 128G RAM and it was great when I was editing 4K HS with 5 sony a7S3 footages. This year I started recording one of the 5 sony a7S3 with S-I at 600 Mbps and added a Sony a1 8K. The M2 Ultra Studio is now stuttering meaning it's obsolete already.

I have the same one just not as much storage space since I use a video storage server. It is great at normal editing however for stuff that requires good gpu performance I have found it to be lacking. It seems to struggle compared to a 4090 build I would guess even a 4080. Stuff like NR, Delta keying, heavy effects, 3d renders. At least with 6k and 4k pro res footage to the point that I cant play back live. Granted that is in resolve and after effects I have not tried those effects in Final Cut.
