Great review. I would love to see SOMEONE do a comparison between a brand new computer and A three year old or five year old computer. Most of us don’t buy a new computer every year so a comparison from last years to this years isn’t particularly helpful. The guys that are buying a new machine every year either have too much cash hanging around, are KZbin influencers that get their demo machines free or high end folks that use every bit of power that they can get every year and are making a living from these things. And they already know what they’re getting next.

Thanks for the excellent top level overview. If people are considering a Mac Mini as a cheaper alternative, they should consider the much higher operating temperature of that machine. Higher operating temperatures shorten the life of electronics. If one is the type who buys a new machine every couple of years that won’t be a problem. But, if you’re hoping to keep the machine for a long time, it should be an important consideration.

Hmm great question. Sounds like the same question I had when I bought mine. If you think the M3 is going to be significantly better for your needs then I would wait. But also think about how much use you will get out of the M2 NOW if you went for it now. Truth is, the increases between M1,2,3 are not as big as the one from Intel to M, so is it work waiting until an undisclosed date for a 20% increase in performance? I would do what I did- go on the refurbished page, save yourself some money and get the Mac now, and start pumping out work for your business. If you regret buying it, you can always return it within the first 30 days I think.

Would you say for my situation, the 64 GB is still the way to go? I was also thinking maybe just doing 1 TB of storage, or perhaps just getting an external hard drive. What do you think?
@awakeabroadmedia2 ай бұрын
In my opinion, get the 1tb and the 64GB, and here's why... As file formats, resolution, and content demands increase, you want to be a little ahead with your computer. I have 1TB but I still use 4 external SSD drives. I also have the 64GB ram and it allows me to run 30+ Chrome tabs (I run a SMMA) at the same time as any other program I need to run- with 0 lag. To me, and for you, as content creators, its important to eliminate the bottlenecks. Storage and ram is imminent bottleneck so we ought to stay ahead. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

I will change my desktop computer (iMac 2012) the next year, and I'm watching all the Mac Studio M2 reviews. This will be my next desktop computer, but with only 32Gb of RAM and less storage, I prefer use external drives. About what you say of the upgrades of chips, I understand you, but for now (you can see between M1 and M2) the difference is not much high, and I think this will be happen again between M2 and M3. While Apple doesn't pass the 3nm barrier in the manufacture of their chips, the differences between generations will be no more bigger. There will be differences, of course, but these ones, will not justify to change the computer too soon, in my opinion. Even I'm not a professional video editor and I will buy this one because I want a computer that will last as long as possible over time, and, I have been using the Apple enviroment for more than 20 years with very good results. I would love to see a real world video of the performance in Lightroom (Devolop module). Like you, I custom built a nice PC a few years ago. It seems no matter what, LR just runs slow when it comes to actually editing the photos, playing with the AI masks etc. I am tempted as a wedding photographer, but cant find anyone showing any videos on this one point. LR has historically not been a great performer in general, so I wonder how this little guy truly performs when it comes to getting into RAW edits, AI masking, and etc and load times from one image to the next etc. All the stuff that drags on most other machines.

Great point! Honesty I find that this computer handles lightroom really well. Same with my old PC. Really you need a good amount of RAM and processing power to have lightroom work well. The M1 Max studio is more than capable to meet most professional of workload with 64GB Ram and 1TB SSD. Apple have a poor product cycle which is heavily biased toward corporate profit and not the consumer. So the tragedy of purchasing an M1 Max Studio in 2024, a capable machine which would last a consumer 5-7 years before needing to upgrade is Apple. Apple's planned obsolescence program slows down machines by storing massive 'system data files' in the SSD over time and or use of software updates to jeopardize efficiency and wear out components. The idea is that Apple want you back at their store every other year regardless of whether you can afford regular upgrades or not.

I've used Apple stuff for years and apart from the fact they are still tickin' there is nothing wrong with them plus buy a new one shove in max Ram and you have it. This report amongst others probably comes from America so that's a problem to start with then in this vid you have a guy plastered with tattoos which means he has regressed to a primitive era of existence and then he wears his cap backwards so you can imagine what level of intelligence this guy exists at. The same problems pop up all over the place. A Mac, though, won't fix these issues.

Apple sucks ass! Price per provenance! Also you didn’t have to upgrade to a 4090!! Could have just gotten a 4060 or even a 3070! All this is is preference! PC is and will always be the most consumer friendly option! Apple is so anti consumer! You can’t upgrade the Mac and it’s ridiculously expensive! But everyone has an apple phone and it works better for them!

I appreciate your perspective! Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to tech, and it's great to hear your thoughts on PC vs. Mac.
