In Episode 3 of MegaBuild we're going to get the car put back together. We start off with the EWG harness for the JB4. Next is the PureTurbos turbo inlet pipe. Then we get the new water pump back in the car along with the new thermostat and coolant hose. Now we can get the new aluminum boost pipe in, then the intercooler. Last is the Wagner Tuning downpipe with its hi-flow cat. That will wrap this episode up... yeah, 40 minutes is too long for anyone to care...
Should I have broken this up even more? Probably...
This is not a DIFFICULT install, It just takes time, patience and the right tools.
Cool?

Much appreciated, as usual! I also have the 2015 M235i but with fbo and stage 2 bm3 ots map. Waiting to put the dv+ on when I do the thermostat assembly, water pump and boost pipe. Great content, very thorough.

This is very doable. Even more so if it's not your daily because sometimes like in my case with the inlet pipe, parts break during removal. But that's just because they're plastic and have years of use. My biggest piece of advice is to buy new hardware (bolts, clamps and such) for every part of the project.

Aww man sorry to hear that! I'm so glad I did a bunch of these mods at once. I'm gonna do the next maintenance video the same way. @@TheWrenchLab No, haven't done any maintenance myself yet, just mods (FMIC, chargepipe, Fabspeed muffler delete, downpipe, etc). Honestly, coming from an n54, this thing has been bulletproof. I'm sure my chargepipe would have blown by now if I hadn't installed the vrsf.

@@TheWrenchLab lol for sure. It's not a question of "if", but "when" that sucker will blow. I'm shocked they've stuck with that material for so many years on so many different platforms. It's kind of a right of passage as a bmw newb to get your first blown chargepipe. 🤣

It took about a week because of filming and me breaking the inlet pipe. If I had all the parts (including the just in case parts)and wasn't filming, I could get this all done in a day. It'd be a long day, fo sho, like 8am to 8pm. I'd love to see how fast I could do it. 🤔🤔🤔

Why such a low amount of torque for the v-band onto the turbo? Is hand tight (like shown) good enough?? Thanks!
@TheWrenchLab
@TheWrenchLab 4 жыл бұрын
The torque spec from BMW is 13nm for that v-band clamp. As long as you can feel around with your fingers that it's fully seated, it doesn't take much effort to tighten it down.

Honestly, I don't notice much of a difference at all. There's a little more bark to it during shifts and more burble action. Other than that it's pretty much the same as stock, which is what I wanted. 😁I'm not into the super loud exhausts anymore. Did you notice much of a difference?
@GrimJaw

With Mikey! Yeah a bit louder I have the MPE muffler installed already so it increased burbble action and start up! I’m looking for medium loudness haha

Great vids , check engine faulty codes ? Did not show up ? By replacing down pipe.
@TheWrenchLab
@TheWrenchLab 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do get a check engine light from the High Flow Cat/Downpipe. It shows up as "Catless downpipe detected". Through my JB4 I can easily clear it. It's the only one I have ever gotten to this day. If you have an MHD tune, you can set it to automatically ignore that. Not sure if it ignores ONLY the catless dp or ALL CEL's though without googling it. I prefer to have the car tell me what's going on, so when it throws a CEL, I don't mind at all.

The wrench lab , any idea how long my ignition coils will last? I'm replacing my spark plugs do I need to change my ignition coils as well? My 16 bmw M235I xdrive have 48,250 . I believed still stock coils , it will benefits the engine if I'll go performance ignition coils ? I'm looking at cosmo racing ignition coils. Kindly advise thanks.
@TheWrenchLab
@TheWrenchLab 4 жыл бұрын
If you're doing the plugs, it's a great time to replace the coils. They're coming off anyway. As far as performance coils goes... I would only go with a set of performance coils if I was upgrading the turbo and/or fuel system or running an e85 mix. With my current mods, I'm running JB4's Map 2 on 93 octane and I also run map 7 when in have a tank full of 100 octane at the drag strip. I'm still running the stock coils and stock plugs gapped to .022. Some suggest running the colder plugs for that, but in my humble opinion I don't find it absolutely necessary. If I was having any ignition issues I would go with the colder plugs. Could the car make more power if I changed the plugs to the colder ones? That's debatable. For the mods I have now, it's running great and without issues. Ignition issues can sometimes be difficult to track down to the exact exact cause. Those are time when you just go all out and replace a bunch if related parts and hope it works out. Hope this helps!

The Wrench Lab , I'm running JB + on my bmw M235I xdrive right now , that tuning is worthy ? Or I have to go full throttle JB4 or Bootmod3? Kindly advise thanks.
@TheWrenchLab
@TheWrenchLab 4 жыл бұрын
On this I'm kinda torn in different directions. I love my JB4 because I'm using the Bluetooth kit and monitor the engine parameters live with the app that shows me a screen of all the temps like oil, water, air intake, transmission and boost. There is a possibility of viewing 6 gauges of which you pick what you want to monitor. With the JB4 you can do a back end flash (BEF) with MHD Tuning. With MHD you can get a custom tune from Jordan Tuned which a lot of Bootmod3 users are going to for a custom tune. Also, I can scan and see check engine light codes (CEL), even while driving, with the JB4 and see what caused the CEL and delete codes if I want. Not sure about BM3's capability in that aspect. I'm also not sure if BM3 has the ability to view the gauges real time. JB4 has the ability to let you adjust the boost and a few other parameters yourself, if you are confident in messing around with that stuff. BM3, not that I'm aware of, doesn't let you do that. The big difference is the JB4 is a physical harness with the connections to the sensors on your engine and the OBD port. Whereas the BM3 is just a flash and that's it. There are pros and cons of each, which are up to you to decide what's a pro and whats a con. Personally, I think a JB4 with a BEF from Jordan Tuned is a great combo. Just my opinion. You can use the JB4 for guages and logging with a BM3 flash too. I've never looked into the differences between BM3 and MHD as far as individual tuning options on things like burbles, cold start and exhaust flaps. I don't know if anyone has made a video about the differences between the two MDH & BM3.

Why JB4 over a flash tune like BM3? Catless doesn't really drone on these cars with the factory exhaust.
@TheWrenchLab
@TheWrenchLab 5 жыл бұрын
I got the jb4 over a year ago right after I bought the car. I don't think bm3 was even a thing yet? I will eventually ditch the stock exhaust which is why I got a catted dp. 😁
@TheWrenchLab
@TheWrenchLab 5 жыл бұрын
I will be doing an MHD BEF here soon. I'll keep that until I get a bigger turbo. Then it'll be a custom flash.
@prayformojo1117

I have Remus catback with ER Catless. It only drones in comfort but sport/sport+ is nice and clean sounding. I have a video on my channel of the exhaust sound. I had JB4 when I got the car in 2014, but switched to BM3 last spring. Flash is definitely the way to go in my opinion.
@TheWrenchLab
@TheWrenchLab 5 жыл бұрын
@@prayformojo1117 awesome! I'll check it out when I can get a chance to hear it! I wanna see how hard I can push the car with the bef in the 1/4 mile. Then try bm3 and get a solid comparison. I have nothing against bm3 I just hadn't heard about it when I got the jb4, that's all.
@sonicgli
@sonicgli 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, BM3 or MHD flash is best over piggyback systems imo. I had JB4 but really love MHD (currently stage ii on 93oct). My m235i is an xdrive so this thing just kills it off the line with launch control, which is apparently useless on rear wheel drive models.
