They did that in the past and it was always very smooth (M1, M2). I think this is why they do not mention it anymore. Of course if you do multitasking and use bigger files or bigger projects you need more RAM and maybe more storage. 8GB: Great for browsing online, streaming movies, messaging with friends and family, editing photos and personal video, casual gaming, and running everyday productivity apps. 16GB: Great if you will be multitasking across a large number of memory-intensive apps, including professional video editing. 24GB or more: Best if you typically work on advanced projects that require enormous files and content libraries.

Rendering is a significant aspect of 3D modeling and animation, but even more important is the creative process. This is why viewport performance is crucial for 3D graphics designers. The ability to preview the scene (composition) in real-time at a quality level closer to the final product is the holy grail of 3D animation and something that can't be tested with synthetic benchmarks.

Seeing the benchmarks I was getting pretty interested in maybe upgrading until I saw the fan speed during that Cenibench test. For me the quietness of my M1 Max has been so key to an amazingly happy experience. They never ramp up unless I am playing a game and then its really not that bad at all. However, the M3 Max, while super fast, if it starts to ramp up and eventually hits 100% fan speed when my M1 Max only ever hit around 40% when I am running harder tasks, it honestly makes me want to consider getting a M3 Max Mac Studio just for those tasks and keep the M1 Max MacBook for a much more comfortable and casual experience. This Macbook is now litterally the reason why I love and hate PC gaming laptops. Ultra gaming performace but they get SOO loud that it's just not enjoyable for me. Thankfully those gaming laptops usually have performance modes so you can lower the fan speed at the cost of some performace. I wonder if running on low power mode may do the same thing for the M3 Max... MaxTech if you read this at all. can you please do a noise comparison with the M3 Max gaming or running Cenibench to max out the CPU/GPU and then put it in Low Power mode and compare the difference?

there is an app to manually ramp up the fans. spoiler: the noise is terrible 😂
@cmoullasnet10 ай бұрын
If you normalize to performance, there will be less noise. In other words, if you were to slow down a new 3nm chip to perform the same as an older 5nm chip it would use less power and by proxy run quieter. Not that it helps you if you’re regularly maxing out your cores, but if that’s you then you’ll likely prefer saving half your life waiting for things in time than a bit more noise anyways…

I can't fathom the time you spent on running these tests vs the time you spent making sure the charts are OK. It looks like they're complete garbage. Just look at 7:58 for instance! M3 is at 328 tracks M2 is at 194 tracks M1 is at 118 tracks Now look at the relative size of the gauges. Am I the only one noticing the huge discrepancy??? Or is there something I'm missing out?

To see true video Editing you need a timeline with cuts, transitions, music tracks etc. that’s what slows things down in adobe premiere. On mac if you try speeding up playback to scan footage the mac stutters often. The macbook struggles with iphone pro max footage once you start editing. Unless its a user error on my part im not impressed with video editing on mac. Its slow on 1080p editing from iphone.

Nice video! I'm very tempted to buy this new spaceblack M3 Max 16" (I'm still one of those oldschoolers with a 2019 Intel), but I think I'll wait for the Studio upgrade because the "price per performance" is going to be better for me.

What studio upgrade are you referring to?

As a video editor any of these m chips is a upgrade. I was using a 2018 entry level mac book with 8 gb of ram. As I started creating content more consistently and bigger projects my computer started seeing decline in year 3 for sure. I got 5 years out the computer but export times and timeline problems and the way the apps worked started taking its toll. As a video editor ram matters and hard drive space especially if you have to download plug ins stuff like that the entry level mac books are as good as toast. For me I needed more ram more hard drive space. It's crazy I did a wedding it was 3 cameras 4k took about 500 gb of memory. It's crazy how much space footage content takes. You definitely need above 16 gb of ram and at least 1tb just to be able to store certain things then delete when transfered to a hard drive. Memory matters on these devices especially if you are a professional always creating running programs rendering stuff like that. I feel the whole m family is a really good buy. If you are a animator stuff like that the m3 is for you but for video editing m family max is just a huge upgrade for the Intel users.

I’d love to see this against the top spec intel 16 inch they used to have. They have likely resold that model but still would be interesting to see how far they have come from their last intel notebook.

You did not test fan noise, can you just use tgpro and put the fans on half speed and max speed so we can hear what the M3 sounds like when the fans kick on.

Can you do a similar comparison between with Pro chipsets? M1 pro 10 unbinned vs M2 pro unbinned vs M3 pro unbinned.

M3 Max look really impressive. Somehow apple undertalked the power of this chip. But is it only me or how is apple's apex engineering managing to barely cool a 50W chip with max fans when every windows laptop at this size can keep even a 80W at check.

I’m not sure if apple uses copper heat pipes but they should use bigger copper heat pipes and have the part where it meets the chip have a larger surface area to dissipate heat. Having the fans ramp up earlier via software definitely helps too. Apple’s own fan curve is meant to keep them off for longer.
