I am using one channel of the Dual Combinator in the M32 (X32) as an insert on my vocal mic to act as a dynamic EQ. The Combinator reacts to changes in the voice as a performance progresses and works to maintain a consistent sound.

I need to try this. I've heard good things about the Combinator (including for de-essing) on other YT videos as well .

Hello, tell me please, if I use combinator on vocal channel insert, what is the best choice: pre or post?

Do you send all vocal mics to a bus then insert the combinator on the bus or do you insert on every vocal channel? Thanks

If I have more than 4 microphones, I will sometimes send them to a bus and use the combinator on the bus. My "regular band" setup has 4 mics and I use two instances of the Dual Combinator in my effects setup. This gives me 4 separate combinators to insert directly on each microphone.

Do you mind sharing the preset you use for the combinator?

Actually, I can walk you through setting it up: Assumption: you have an microphone with with enough gain to get the channel meter to about -18 (ie SM58 with about 28db gain...) 1. Insert the combinator using factory defaults. 2. Turn off SBC. 3. Select the High band and set the High band threshold all the way down. (-10) 4. Speak into the mic using "S Words" and start adjusting the "Trim Thresh" until you see the green high band meter start deflecting a little 5. Step 4 gets the "De-esser" working and you should end up around -25 to -30 on the "trim thresh" 6. Now go back and select each band and set the thresholds so that you get the amount of compression you want for each band. Note: I usually set Hi-Mid to about -3, Mid to +1 or +2, Lo=Mid to -4 or -5, and I leave the Low at 0 for vocals. Hope that helps!
